200 from Ford… 250 from Trudeau…. amazing lol I can buy 1-2 weeks of groceries with this hahaha

    Or 1/4 of my rent

Temporary for only 2 months? What is the point of this, why not pass a solution that improves affordability over the long term? This is just a handout now, instead of actually fixing things 🤦‍♂️

  3. MisterDeagle on

Well, this is just stupid. What is this temporary relief meant to do other than being feel-good vote buying.

We’ll have to wait to see what the NDP does. This would require the passing of a bill, which presently can’t happen due to the ongoing stalemate in the house due to the Liberals refusing to hand over the green slush fund documents as Parliament has required.

This is the perfect opportunity for everyone — and especially the NDP — to torch Trudeau with something like:

“Earlier this year the NDP made a series of proposals to make life more affordable for Canadians struggling to make ends meet. Today, Justin Trudeau has decided those proposals were the right idea, and has offered them up in exchange for letting his party off the hook in yet another Liberal slush fund scandal where tens, and maybe hundreds of millions of dollars may have been inappropriately awarded to Liberal insiders. Parliament has demanded Justin Trudeau release all the documents related to this scandal immediately, which he refuses to do. He is instead demanding we sacrifice our honesty and integrity to let the Liberals off the hook, and holding all Canadians hostage to high cost of living until he gets what he wants. The only person standing in the way of making life more affordable for Canadians now is Justin Trudeau. Release the documents, and then let’s get on with passing this NDP affordability legislation.”

Why is there GST on diapers anyway? Just make that permanent.

Wait for retailers to quietly raise prices by 5-10% because “people were paying that anyway” and then GST rebate is gone but prices stay -> profits up. Buy retailers stonks.

Trudeau is really desperate now. This is nothing but vote buying and way to destroy further our economy. YIKES!

    So…

These cheques… we called out Doug Ford for buying the vote. Does the same yard stick apply here?

  9. BigMickVin on

That $6 billion could better be spent on improving government services. Maybe veterans or people on disability instead of giving people a break on their Boston Pizza bill.

Nothing like being bribed with money already stolen from our paychecks.

Is this bribe going to just voters or does it include people who won’t even be in Canada next year?

  11. imfar2oldforthis on

Weren’t Liberal supporters just frothing at the mouth over Doug Ford doing the same thing?

This is shameful as they’re just using this to break the deadlock in parliament they’ve cause by trying to cover up the potentially criminal actions around the Green Slush Fund they created for them and their friends.

$200 from Doug Ford is not good policy, and $250 from the federal government is still not good policy.

TFW a fucking form of sales tax gets a vacation before I do

We should be looking at cutting costs before we cut our revenue. This is just more deficit spending. I’m beginning to wonder if this guy thinks debt just disappears because he has never paid a bill before.

The timing on this is dumb. Who is buying a Christmas tree after December 14? Gifts too. I mean, I’m a dude so I don’t shop until December 20 at the earliest, but still. Odd.

  16. elias_99999 on

Gst vacation on chips, video games and Christmas trees?

    What a disgrace.

  17. This is, frankly, ridiculous.

A two month GST holiday at the cost of $6.28b to federal coffers? And the list of things has some bizarre items on it: Christmas trees, printed newspapers, junk food, catered meals, video games and booze.

I’m sure the catered meal crowd is happy for the tax relief.

Oh, and a $250 cheque in the spring, just in case there is an early election due to the budget being voted down.

  18. chessdad_ca on

So now everyone is going to wait until Dec 14 to buy their Christmas presents? and Christmas tree?

  19. The govt clearly doesn’t think the average Canadian is very smart pulling stuff like this constantly

  20. This is some high class Trudeau bumblefuckery right here. This is going to be a royal pain in the ass for businesses, especially small ones. Having to re-program cash registers, having people hold off on larger Christmas purchases, and then having to re-program cash registers again after 2 months. Making the change mid-month will make auditing GST remittances a pain in the ass for CRA too, and open the door to fraud.

It’s obvious Trudeau has never had to do any sort of financial planning in his life, other than spend, spend, spend. The only thing it does is take our tax money and break the gridlock in the House of Commons over Liberal mis-handling of the green fund. The NDP is going to let the Liberals skate again, Singh’s complicity in propping up this government his going to cost him his job and the NDP any hope of relevancy.
