  1. Good – people don’t pay to listen to their neighbours butchering songs. I wouldn’t want to listen to someone mouthing along the dialogue either.

Ugh. I know two ladies who this rule was specially made for.

    Insufferable.

If people really want to do this they should make a special showing or promo.

Damn. I want to sing the south park versions of songs in there now

  5. I saw the South Park movie in theaters this summer with my kids and singing along was very much encouraged. Too bad it was only me and the guy next to me that were going all out.

I mean, yeah? Don’t talk in movies, don’t sing in movies…people pay to hear the professionals, not some rando sitting next to them. You also are not allowed to sing along at the stage show, I imagine, so I don’t see why this needs to be said.

That’s what movie parties at the Alamo Drafthouse are for!

The idea of hearing Defying Gravity unwillingly for the millionth time from every angle of the theater sounds like an actual nightmare.

This isn’t going to work – they should have “Sing-along” screenings and “singing prohibited” screenings. Everyone can pick their experience.

Thankfully the movie theater near me does fun stuff like sing-a-long screenings, so I’ll be seeing it twice; once without then once with!

I can probably recite 3/4 of the play and I totally support these rules. I am not there to listen to Debra and Patti live their Beyonce dreams. And nobody wants to hear me singing either.

I realize it’s a musical, but you’re not there to participate. Singing along in the theaters is as inappropriate as it would be if you tried to do that during a broadway performance. Just watch the damn movie. If you have to have a sing-a-long you can do that at home, with your friends.

  13. Why is this even an article? It’s common courtesy. And everyone knows the only movie you sing along with at the theater is Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Hopefully they will put out a single along version.

I’m still mad they are breaking it into two movies. I’ll be waiting to watch them when they are both out.

A bunch of friends are going this weekend. I was hyped to go until I saw a tongue-in-cheek post warning audiences about all of the theater kids who are about to live out their dreams in the audience. I backed out of going. I will wait a few weeks and hope the die-hards won’t be in attendance then.

I’m going with a fuck ton of theater kids — good luck telling them

  17. Saw it last night at an amc. The quiet from the audience was definitely appreciated

One of the worst movie theater experiences of my life was seeing Moulin Rouge at the dollar theater. Everyone there was singing along. It was terrible, but at least not expensive.
