the personal spiritual connection is such a cornerstone of this ritual can an AI ever truly replicate
Something like the scenes in THX-1138, where citizens sit in private booths, confessing to an image on a display, and hear responses that are recordings of a sympathetic-sounding man.
A Catholic church in Switzerland has debuted a new AI Jesus which takes confessions from worshippers and offers spiritual advice.
St. Peter’s Church in Lucerne allows the faithful to enter a confessional booth with a screen displaying Jesus’s likeness through the grate.
Upon entering the booth, the AI Jesus issues a warning to parishioners: “Do not disclose personal information under any circumstances, use this service at your own risk, press the button if you accept.”
While these churchgoers report a positive experience, the practice is leading to questions of a loss of human connection and leadership – why follow a spiritual leader when AI Jesus is more efficient and capable of offering anonymity?
Isn’t this just idol worship? Which is like against the 2nd commandment?
The movie Priest had this I think…
And it makes me think of Demolition Man too…
“You are an incredibly sensitive man who inspires joy-joy feelings in all those around you.”…
It’s 2024. AI has taken God’s job. It’s officially over.
Soon to follow with a subscription fee that Christian chumps will gladly fork over
For some reason, reminds me of an old sci-fi story where an old Jewish Rabbi is on a distant planet, and there are no other humans, only sentient robots. He teaches Judaism to the robots, one becomes a Rabbi. At the end of the story, the old human Rabbi dies, and this robot Rabbi is working on converting other robots.
If people like in the story above are using AIs to assist in taking confessions, how long before they are teaching religion? How long before they have their own religion and are teaching it to each other?
