      Edit: I am aware Hungary are a part of NATO.

      They do this because the scope of the war is broadening. Insinuating their masters have informed them of a strike outside Ukraine.

      The only way to explain it is they’re afraid they might be next. I guess they still have some time to fortify the border. Not that this would be enough but they need to get started anyways.

      It is almost like they are on russian side, despite being a Nato country, member of EU and such. Weird!

      There is also a rational component in that decision. Zakarpattya is the quietest, safest corner of Ukraine – not outside of Russian missile range but only few come through – and so Ukraine builds some of their new military industry there. If Russia indeed performs a super massive all out missile barrage as they threaten, or a less “all out” barrage but focussed on Zakarpattya, some of the missiles will certainly overfly the border and go to Hungary and Slovakia.

      So shooting down errant Russian missiles is very likely to be necessary. Orban and Szijjarto may also have gotten a warning from Russia about an impending attack.
