  1. Indonesia in recent years made an effort to scout and recruit Indonesian descent players that are playing in European football clubs and academies. As a former Dutch colony, vast majority of these players are from the Netherlands.

    I was at the Canada/Suriname match last night. I was looking into the Suriname squad and only 6 of the 23 players were born in Suriname. The rest in The Netherlands with 1 in Sint Maarten.

    Guy born in Finland (Eliano Reijnders) is the son of a Dutch player who only played two seasons in Finland in the late 90s, during which Eliano was born. Wild!

    The one born in Brussels was apparently eligible for Belgium, The Netherlands, Ireland, England, Switzerland and Indonesia.

    That’s an odd specialization of export goods. Maybe the Netherlands should start building Brazilian players. I heard you can get crazy prices for those. Or do they grow them? Not really familiar with this topic.

  9. There are a few hundred thousand Indonesian citizens living in the Netherlands being the former colonial power.
