„Wer Kinder großziehen will, sollte seinen Job kündigen“ – Mann, der im „Music Box Store“ arbeitet, klagt wegen Herabstufung nach Antrag auf Elternurlaub und behauptet „Patahara“
A man from Kyoto has filed a lawsuit against his company, seeking compensation, claiming he faced harassment related to his fatherhood, known as “paternity harassment” or “patahara,” after requesting parental leave.
The man, who works at “Orgel-do,” a company with stores located at tourist sites nationwide, filed the lawsuit. According to the complaint, two years ago, the man requested to limit his late-night shifts for childcare purposes. In response, he was demoted to a general position and transferred to work at a store.
While the company’s website includes statements like “encouraging the use of parental leave,” the man was forced to write an apology letter for not consulting beforehand. He was also criticized by the president, who allegedly told him, “If you want to raise children, you should quit your job.”
The man developed a mental health disorder as a result and was forced to take leave. He claims that he was subjected to “paternity harassment,” which is prohibited by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and is seeking compensation from the company for emotional distress.
The Plaintiff said:
“Although the company claims it prevents harassment, the reality is that the management is doing it. I hope this situation changes.”
In response to the lawsuit, Orgel-do stated, “We have not received the complaint, so we will refrain from commenting.”
