      As a foreigner in this lovely country, I want to express my deepest sympathy for the innocent victims of the Volhynia and Eastern Galicia massacres. It’s crucial to remember these painful chapters of history and honor the memory of those who suffered. Sharing this is a step toward ensuring such tragedies are never forgotten. My thoughts are with all Polish families whose ancestors endured this. #neverforget #neverrepeat

      the worst part is the fact that this wasn’t a genocide carried out only by the members of the UPA, they were very often assisted by ukrainian civilians

      As a European I urge Poland to not make too much a fuss about that! I have learned that Ukrainians can be very vengeful. Especially, since Ukraine will have to bond strongly with Germany (+ Netherlands, Austria, Nordics) for reconstruction. You might push them harder towards Western/Central Europe for future EU politics.

      I always wished to create a balance for Eastern Europe with Ukraine joining the EU, but if Poland and Ukraine do not work together and Ukraine becomes heavily allied with others, this might not happen. Especially bad since PiS will likely not get along with Ukraine. Polish nationalists are universally despised in Ukraine. In Lviv/Kyiv they are exclusively looking much further West than Warsaw.

      We, as Ukrainians, are sorry for this tragedy. This is consensus in our society, I am sincere. This shall not be forgotten. A clear, transparent investigation should be allowed from both sides of the conflict. The same would go to Poland when investigating crimes of Polish people against Ukrainians: free access to burial sites, archives, and cooperation between two states. In Ukraine we made this as policy, but then Polish ultra right politicians oppose our own investigation unfortunately.

      scientists should do their job. Politicians should stay away.

      The numbers keep growing, from 40 thousand to 120, then 130 and 200 thousand, why not stick to the words of Edward Prus about 500 thousand killed poles, cuz seeing numbers monotonously increasing has already become tiring

      Brave UPA and UON fought for Ukraine by massacring civilians and being destroyed every time they fought actual soldiers lol. Why tf did the government choose these losers to be Ukrainian National heroes.

      That’s a rare ocasion to thank the neighbor of my grandmother for a heads up so she and her family would flee before the masscre that happened in her village as well

      While it is reality that it did happen….we can go back centuries where Poland and Ukraine performed atrocities on each other.

      Poland and Ukraine need each other to protect against the Russian horde.

      If you want past historical events to dictate future relations – Poland will have an additional 40,000,000 russified orcs on the border of Poland and Ukraine

      My grandparents have been murdered in the genocide. My grandma survived by rushing barefoot to the woods. She was 14 by the time and it was 28th of december. Their Ukrainian neighbours gave UPA password to trick watchmen and let them in to the village. They lived and worked together for generations. My name is of Ukrainian origin even tho I’m polish. Yet still they got killed by their people. I know it for years but still cannot understand it.

      Then you’re telling about ukrainian peasants suffering for centuries under polish rule so it led to multiple revolts but everyone starts to lose their shit.

      Majority of today’s population of both countries is unable to produce any kind of link or relation to this event, why everyone is so fixated on what happened 80 years ago?

      My take.
      1. Poland should absolutely continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, providing financial aid, supplies, and lethal weapons. A free, democratic, and prosperous Ukraine is far more likely to confront and acknowledge its past than one that is impoverished, occupied, and feeling betrayed.
      2. Poland should also firmly demand the exhumation, proper burial and recognition of victims, ensuring that Ukraine acknowledges what happened and reconciles with its past.

      My grandma and her entire family would have been killed during the massacres, had it not been for their Ukrainian neighbor giving them 30 minutes warning that people were coming to kill them, giving them a chance to hide. The UPA later found out their neighbor had warned them, and murdered him, his wife, and their two small children. What a horrific time in history.
