I’m tangentially aware of the mental health space at least here in BC. The registered psychologists are booked full from private insurance claims and doing brisk business.

Most of the weight falls on clinical counsellors and even a tier below like social workers and other less credentialed , cheaper options. And i can’t speak to the quality of care as you go down that list.

We have a supply issue. That needs to be tackled because even when people have coverage (via private health insurance) the waitlist to see a psychologist is long, so people opt for short term counselling and stuff like tele-health employee & family assistance programs.

Our mental health care coverage is such a joke. Countries like Sweden, UK, Norway (to some extent), Denmark have universal mental health care, with the first 2 even having it integrated into primary care. It’s about time we integrated it into Medicare.
