Why would the Liberals even keep him around at this point? He’s obviously a liability. Why not just cut him loose before more stuff comes up?

“He said he’d confirm his great-grandmother’s status, but his mother and brother are citizens of the Métis Nation of Alberta.”

I understand there are different opinions in different regions, but generally Metis are considered separate from First Nations. This means not only was he using unconfirmed stories/lying he was applying heavier consideration to his supposed Indigenous background, further back, as opposed to his Metis background which is more recent. Not only was he lying, but he was jumping over what should take precedence.

For example, yes someone from Manitoba might have Cree as the indigenous side of their background but they would be considered Metis, not Cree, because they are a combination of backgrounds not just the one.

“mother and brother are citizens of the Métis Nation of Alberta.”

This could also be concerning, and make things even worse. If the Metis Nation of Alberta is the same situation as the Metis background Kevin Klein claimed in Mb then it is largely self declared and controversial in general and specifically bad here. If the nation is more like Red River Manitoba Metis that would add a lot of legitimacy as you have to have extensive family background and extensive proof of Metis background specifically, to be able to claim it and get a card, and it is an official government recognized entity.

my concern is that the indigenous are not. I’m wondering if they have been paid off. very strange.

Could you imagine if this clown was a Conservative MP? The shrieking from the peanut gallery on here and elsewhere for him to resign would be deafening.

Remember that former Conservative MP Bev Oda ended up resigning over a goddamn $16 glass of orange juice…

One of the big questions in all this that I’m not seeing be asked is what documentation did thr Alberta metis nation accept to prove his mother and brother were of metis ancestry.
