  1. Take it with a grain of salt. The guy is running for the presidency, with elections on Sunday, and is framing this as a victory, even though it has nothing to do with him. It hasn’t yet been established that Romania will fully join the Schengen area; there are just promising signs, as there have been many times in the past.

Bullshit, he’s just blatantly lying to score election points for president from the stupid masses. There is NO new information for that from the EU.

Is that a statement from the EU, or are you just writing misleading titles?

  4. Like others have said, this is election propaganda and probably shouldn’t be posted here

Keep in mind that: This man runs for presidency but doesn’t know how to speak in English.

  6. Well we have a new government by then, hopefully, but the idiots blocking it are in it again so..

Let’s hope they were “appeased enough” via “back channels” and by that I mean they can be bought.

  7. Its pribably true, the only way Austria can get gas supply is through the pipe that runs through Bulgaria. I imagine there is some brutal hirse trading behind the scenes.

Even if this was true I don’t know what you’re expecting. It’s more of a symbolic issue, as land borders are closed in most of the rest of Schengen too. Slovenia, Germany and Scandinavia for example currently don’t have a single open land border, and France only does so with Monaco.

What would likely happen if they enter fully would be an open border between each other only (which they can agree to already if they’re committed to getting in together), and also Greece possibly but Bulgaria may soon close that one too.

Could anyone explain what is the beef with Austria regarding this Schengen issue?
