Bettwanzen. DO NOT ENTER YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT WASHING EVERYTHING; BETTER GET RID OF EVERYTHING ITS SO FUCKING HARD TO GET RID OF BED BUGS. Google bed bugs and what to do
Could you please share the hotel name ? My parents are coming soon and they booked something in an hotel next to the main station in Frankfurt. Thanks.
The hotel is called Savoy hotel, do you have the same experience?
Update: I just talked to the receptionist, he just told me to go see a doctor as I’m having allergic reactions now. That’s it…
These are bedbugs. They are the absolute worst. Unfortunately they are not considered ‘Meldepflichtig’ but absolutely go to the front desk and let them know and ask for a new room. There are online guides on how to identify bed bugs in a hotel room before you get settled in. Usually involves lifting the mattress and looking for little dark spots.
Hopefully you don’t have your favorite clothes with you, because you absolutely need to either get rid of all of the clothes & bags you have with you, or you need to store them for months in plastic bags till the bugs die. DO NOT take the bags & clothes into your home!!! Store them in plastic bags in your cellar / attic / garage.
Heat is usually very effective, but unfortunately it’s winter, so you cant really use the sun to heat everything up.
Having bedbugs is super traumatic. Bag everything before entering your home
This shall be known by everyone!
Frankfurt Bahnhofsviertel has had a bed bug issue for years. Not everywhere, not all the time, but sometimes, somewhere
Just to echo folks: do not enter your house – get a garbage bag, undress and put your clothes into the bag, don’t leave a slightest chance that the bug eggs may travel with you.
Holy s I experienced it at a cheap hostel in Frankfurt some years ago. I threw away all the clothes I had in my suitcase that could not be washed in ~~90+~~ (Edit: 60+) celcius degree mode. Upon returning home, I didn’t really sit anywhere, didn’t touch anything that wasn’t smooth surface in synthetic materials that could be wiped, before I thoroughly went through my suitcase (outside on the porch) and did all the necessary throwing away and washing.
I actually went to Charite after this just to get some emergency treatment, but the dermatologist assigned to me didn’t know what bed bugs were (I did speak english back then but it wasn’t even the language issue – he googled bed bug right in front of me, saw that it was actually a thing, but still didn’t take me seriously, spoke in a mocking tone the whole time) and shooed me away with a generic ointment. Of course it didn’t do anything and the bite marks remained for 6+ months, although it did become practically invisible to anyone but me after about 4 months. I hope you have a better experience than this when visiting a dermatologist.
> what should I do, just alert the front desk?
That is absolutely the first thing you should do.
> Do I need to go to the emergency room?
No; if you haven’t suffered an anaphylactic shock your life isn’t in immediate danger. You may experience some relatively mild allergic reactions over the next few days which can be treated with antihistamines, although symptoms usually clear up on their own anyway — visit your doctor if you’re unsure.
Avoid scratching the bite marks even if they itch, because that can get them infected.
