“We’re not having young people be hired in a way that makes sense,” Mohamed said, adding that expectations from employers have grown, but wages have not.

“A young person needs to have three years of employment experience, a graduate degree, bilingual … and they want to be paying this person $20 an hour,” Mohamed said. “So, it’s not really a place where we’re actually cultivating young people wanting to get jobs.”

“We have to figure out, what are the barriers that we are putting in front of people?” Mohamed said.

I mean Reddit already did the research. It’s just to kick out the leeches that do nothing but receive handouts from the government that are paid for by the already struggling Canadians. Businesses that want to continue to exist will have no choice but to hire actual Canadians.

    Typo not mine:

    >The **unemployment rate for rate for Canadians** between 18 and 24 in October was 12.8 per cent, according to Statistics Canada, more than double the rate of 5.4 per cent for Canadians older than 25.

I know it’s not super related, but come on CTV. “Rate for rate for”? If you’re producing written material, at least check it for stuff like this.

The youth can’t get jobs because they’re competing with cheap foreign labour.

  5. “Youth unemployment will cost the economy billions.”

    “Okay, so hire Canadian Youth.”

“Uh, no. can I hire another TFW through LMIA so they can get no benefits and I can pay them just at minimal wage, garnish their wages without them being able to fight back and if they talk back to me I can threaten to fire them which means they get deported? While the federal government covers 25% of their wages?”

    “No?”

“LABOUR SHORTAGE, WE HAVE A LABOUR SHORTAGE. WE NEED MORE WORKERS.”

“Youth unemployment is double the national-”

“LABOUR SHORTAGE, NO ONE WANTS TO WORK ANYMORE. LABOUR SHORTAGE.”

Problem is giving jobs outside those requiring specialized skills to folks on PGWP over Canadians. Should not be permitted.

Maybe an additional half million temporary foreign workers will solve this issue 💁🏻‍♂️

“Could”. A lot of things could happen. Youth unemployment was higher “2009-2015” and it worked out. Only now do people care and I think it’s because we can’t complain about the low 6.5% unemployment of today.

  9. Let’s also not forget corporations that do not want to pay a decent wage. My son was looking for a part time job last year, many places wanted him to work 30 hours…..they were doing this so they would not have to pay benefits to a full time position…..

Yeah no shit, they’d rather hire people who can’t put a single English sentence together than hire one of Canadas youth.

After 100-200+ applications and 4 interviews (3/4 unexpectedly cancelled) I cant find a job at all. I desperately wanna work, I even have open availability all day everyday but it’s not enough. I’ve had to pause University because of this impossible job search, but what’s puzzling is that I have the experience. Make it make sense, because there’s something fundamentally wrong. I don’t put the blame on the immigrants, but I do with the greedy corporations and government on exploiting them. I’m disappointed that its knock on effects happens to affect Canadians, I hope for positive change in the near future. Sorry, I’m trying my best!

Canada’s youth were sacrificed for Booner greed. At least the revenge is no grandkids

  13. CHUD_LIGHT on

The job market for the youth was nuked, the response has been lacklustre and the people in charge don’t actually care

  14. Wait you’re telling me corporations want to LIGMA?

    Oh! … LIMA, my bad.

  15. Old-Introduction-337 on

jobs stolen from the canadian youth and given to temporary foreign workers who send the money back …home

Gotta love those hard working corporations that abuse foreign workers make them work absurd hours with zero benefits and then fire them if they complain because others will take the abuse. And then have people hating on those immigrants when it’s the corporations fault. I love late stage capitalism.

  17. The plan aims to push Canadian youth to work overseas, allowing employers to save on training costs while paying experienced foreign workers a lower wage, effectively killing two birds with one stone. (not sure if I should put /s)

All these money going out of the country to support their home country. Who’s paying for the cost? The new generation youths.
