  1. So the portrayal of London being a crime infested hell-hole is somewhat of an overstatement?

    (And avoid O2?)

I’ve been living abroad for a while. But am I expected to believe that West Croydon and Thornton Heath are safer than South Croydon? All Green until Brixton? What is this in comparison to?

  3. I moved to London a few years ago. Always was a bit worried that it was dangerous. It can be, but because of its sheer size it’s mostly in specific areas. Also, because of its importance as the political, cultural and tourism capital of the uk, the centre and most areas where visitors would venture are safe and busy. The main risk is bag and phone snatching but I think it’s less than say Rome or Barcelona.

I’ve lived in other uk cities and ironically they CAN (not always) feel a lot less safe than London. I think it’s mostly because the distance between people is less, most people converge on a single central or “downtown” area, and also fewer resources and different policing outside of London. The curtain twitchers and Daily Mail readers seem to have never lived in a city of more than 100k people.

Ah, the Isle of Dogs, an oasis of peace in an ocean of chaos that is Tower Hamlets and…Greenwich?
