How about releasing some of them on bluray?
> Apple TV+ has had its share of hits, but the service nonetheless continues to struggle to gain widespread success. Now, according to a new report, Apple will start licensing some of its content elsewhere in an effort to save money and spread its reach.
Movies from Apple will start showing up on other services
> Lucas Shaw writes for Bloomberg:
> “Apple has hired an executive to license its original productions to other companies, a strategy designed to increase sales from its film business and improve the visibility of its content.”
> […]
> “Apple is focused on licensing its movies to other companies, such as foreign TV networks and stores, where viewers can rent or buy them, according to a person familiar with the plans. The company isn’t planning to license its original TV shows to third parties. (At least not yet.)”
> Shaw notes that CEO Tim Cook and services head Eddy Cue have been pushing for the TV+ team to cut costs and find greater success.
> The movie division especially has been under increased scrutiny lately, with its planned theatrical release of Wolfs canceled last minute. Apple has reportedly changed its film strategy to minimize the big budget theatrical productions and lean more into streaming-friendly, lower-cost fare.
> Now licensing is apparently part of Apple’s plans to reduce its TV+ losses.
It’s almost like every producer having their own content silo isn’t better than having just a few consolidators.

Apple has been doing the exact same thing Netflix was doing in its peak days. Which is to throw bags of cash at passersby from their window.
it is logical
AppleTV+ has a small number of movies/shows. and you cannot watch from another service etc unless you pay extra. so from this perspective few people would go for it instead of Netflix, Disney etc.
So the logical step would be to allow other services to license their shows, since many of them are huge hits.
or Apple to get shows/movies from others into TV+ so it can have a big library
They obviously don’t understand that a lot of people aren’t gonna sign up for just every streaming service anymore. People have to make choices and Apple TV+ is on the short end of the stick
Not sure why they need their own streaming platform to begin with. Just license all their content to the big 5.
There should be no exclusives. You should have various apps, and those apps should be able to view any video from any source. It would be nice if there was a reasonable pricing system for the different videos.
Its funny that its come to this, licensing everything to each other. Apple sends stuff to Netflix who sends stuff to disney etc etc.
The snake is eating its own tail abit
Or, and I’m just wondering aloud, why don’t they just make available all the stuff they produce on their iTunes/Apple TV digital storefront for digital sale first to see how that helps shore up those losses? They are the only streamer that everything they produce is super high budget AND has their own digital storefront but only sells entertainment produced by other companies. I understand wanting to compete with the likes of Netflix but ignoring an obvious revenue stream like digital sales seems like their executives skipped a class or two in business. I’d love to buy a season pass for Ted Lasso, as good as that show is I’m not going to subscribe to Apple TV+ for more than one month since so few of the things they produce are my taste in entertainment.
Can we finally see a physical release of Killers of the Flower Moon??
I feel like a lot of these subscription services would do better in a per watch pricing and instead shift strictly to production. But they would have to be cheap per view. Or cheaper subscription plans that gave credits and put you into a pricing tier.
I try to play fair and have subscriptions but I know how to get stuff free and pretty quick. If something I want to watch isn’t part of my subscription I don’t subscribe unless it’s a free trial. But, a few times a month I will rent a movie or an episode of a show because it’s cheap enough for me to not waste my time. If it’s over $5 for a movie or a dollar for an episode than I go a different route.
Let Ted Lasso free you stingy fucks!
This is great. Everyone forgot the Paramount antitrust case of 1948, there’s a reason why we banned movie studios from owning movie theaters.
We should do exactly the same to streaming services.
I don’t like Apple, but their App and Content Quality has been pretty above average, and better than competitors.
I also can’t get the app on my Pixel phone or Nvida Shield Pro box on my tv… Maybe making the service accessible to everyone could help them get customers? I really wanted to watch MLS games, but can’t get the app on my tv, and not worth paying for a service that I can only watch on a web browser
Good. Apple TV is by far the worst streaming service. They have seriously good content but unless you’re watching on an apple device it’s almost impossible to navigate and the quality is ass.
sucks they are losing money. apple tv+ is the only streaming service that has its own identity these days and hasn’t become a total crapfest. I admit I haven’t watched many of the movies, so maybe it’s a good call to license those. the shows are really solid overall. they definitely should not cede the premium aura- they are the new HBO imho.
Apple doesn’t break out revenue for AppleTV+ but its services (in which AppleTV+ is combined) has seen remarkable, consistent growth. So it’s sloppy to suggest that Apple seeking a greater ROI is meant to “reduce losses.”
People has learned that you can just pay a month a year for one service and see whatever movie or series appeal to you, then cancel and repeat next year.
This is what all the streamers are doing already. They are losing their uniqueness.
Imagine for a moment that NBC got lazy and started showing CBS shows. Then ABC starts showing old NBC shows, listing them as “new to our lineup”. Etc.
That’s where we are. Covering for inability to profit and a deficit of imagination or originality by licensing out properties to other streaming platforms.
Apple TV+ is on par with HBO in quality but there’s just too many streaming services now. I keep Netflix and prime then rotate between hbo and Apple TV depending on new shows (hbo now for dune prophecy
Only Netflix and PlutoTV will survive.
Let me buy wolfwalkers on apple tv without a plus sub and I’ll no longer have a use for it
