    1. I hope Hyundai heavy is better at manufacturing than Hyundai automotive
Cause those subs would suck ass if they have the same quality control

In my lay opinion, Canada absolutely needs a strong navy, including these submarines. As the Arctic warms and becomes more accessible, it will become a major transportation route and the source of natural resource exploration.

Submarines are not easily detectable and therefore hard to account for by foes. They can carry out a large range of missions including intelligence gathering, surveillance, and sovereignty patrols.

Canada simply doesn’t have the industrial base to support nuclear submarines. As well nuclear boats are perhaps best suited for long distance and high speed missions. In contrast, conventional boats are well suited for the littoral missions, being extremely quiet and sticking closer to shore.

If we don’t develop the capacity to patrol the Arctic and maintain Canadian sovereignty, others, both friends and foe, will walk all over us.

As long as the focus stays on equipping the navy with modern equipment that works instead of “Made in Canada” above all else

They are certainly one of the shipyards interested in bidding on the CPSP, I don’t think its anything more than that at this point.

I attended the deep blue forum mentioned in the article, and there was a big presence from Hyundai there. A guest speaker and a big video, which was essentially a 5 minute sales pitch.

The request for information for the cpsp is out, and the deadline is tomorrow, I think. So that will at least show who is actually interested. Certainly more than just Hyundai and South Korea for sure!

They can’t even build cars where their engines don’t fail past 5 years

Amazing how Korea has upped their game in defense while Canada’s economy is reliant on international student tuition
