      As someone who lives in the UK but is not originally from here: you guys have got to accept the fact that salaries are almost universally shit. And then you have got to demand better

      Good things come to an end. It’s inevitable. You never know when your life is gonna get totally f***ed. I live in Kent, went to Herne Bay in the summer, Nasty Nick Cotton, actor John Altman somehow ended up showing me how the car park machine worked. Coincidently, my other half’s best friend got gifted a cruise with her husband last month in sympathy for suffering a still birth. Who was doing a meet & greet on the cruise ship? Nasty Nick ffs. There is life after alleged fame, just not always in front of an audience, TV or otherwise.

      I’m surprised Step Change hasn’t been mentioned in any of this. She couldn’t buy food because she was too busy spending money on debt repayments, sounds entirely like their wheelhouse.

      Full props to her using what is available, just even surprised the BBC hasn’t mentioned it either. Step Change can genuinely be a cheat code to living your best life. Honestly.

      She must have really mismanaged for it to get to that level. Rory Jennings who didn’t even have that big a role in Eastenders said he was getting £4000 a week (he was paid based on how many episodes he appeared in and that included repeats/the Sunday omnibus)

      Sad as this story is, it seems like a case of someone not being advised on how to manage their money properly, a huge problem in the UK and someone “famous” suffering because of it should be a good PR opportunity to warn/educate people on it. It should be taught in schools.

      Massive credit to her for being open and honest about it, as it’s telling that she says “I was on Eastenders, how could this happen to me?”

      Being on Eastenders is hardly being Tom Cruise. I imagine not a pittance, but not “shopping around for a super yacht” territory. I don’t imagine even the guy who has played Ian Beale for most of his adult like is driving around in a Ferrari lighting Cuban cigars with £50 notes. So it is also telling about how society perceives celebrity and assuming that “being famous = being rich” which it increasingly doesn’t.

      I work in the dance music industry and aside from *very* few DJs right at the top, none are stupid rich, and you’d be surprised how many aren’t much more well off than your average wage earner in the UK. Even at the sharp end, the private jets are hired simply because they’re cheaper than flying x number of people commercially. There’s only about two/three DJ (see if you can guess) who could probably afford a private jet of their own, and even they don’t actually own one.
