Don’t blame some nebulous group of bad actors. Don’t blame immigrants. A competent government launches government programs with checks and balances, internal and external controls. There is a reason a competent government doesn’t administer the tax system on the honour system or requires you to show your passport to enter the country.
This government dropped good governance in the pursuit of hitting its (arbitrary) targets as fast as possible. If that sounds familiar, it’s not that unfamiliar with what it did during COVID with CERB: give money (immigration status) first, ask questions later, because it’s an emergency! Except this is not an emergency. You can’t govern in peace times like you govern during war times. With respect to this policy, they were not a competent government.
This is coming from the government that allowed international students to work full-time hours because god forbid Canadians were finally getting some power over their wages.
They knew what was going on with our immigration, it went exactly as planned. Trouble is now there’s an election coming up and people are pissed.
In the 2000’s Justin Trudeau criticized Stephen Harper about immigration being too high, and that when Justin was in power he would clamp down on immigration and fix it as the TFW program was “broken” he was fully aware of what he was doing by loosening the laws and making it easier for people to get in, slack vetting and a change to the rules concerning unemployment levels allowed more TFW’s to enter even when unemployment surpassed a certain threshold for Canadians. He was aware of what he was doing the entire time and did it intentionally to avoid being caught responsible for the incoming recession due to his poor policies.
How did this happen? Who’s to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
