I don’t really consider making jokes about your own disabilities “dark humor”.

It’s just a coping mechanism like anyone else’s coping mechanisms. I make jokes about my progressive neurodegenerative disorder all the time and I even encourage my friends to feel comfortable joking about it. Because if I constantly treat it as this terrifying demon, it’s going to leave me terrified.

It’s the same reason people made stupid, goofy cartoons about Hitler and the Nazis back in the ’40s. Making light of something just makes it easier to deal with. Makes it less intimidating.

A friend of mine worked with Fox for a small shoot of talking straight into the camera, and Fox was a constant professional, would nail it one take. My friend said Michael J Fox even jokes. , “Hey do you want me to operate the camera? I’m smooth.”

My friend said he was such a light and energy and that Fox’s wife is such a great help, and was one of the best filming shoots he ever did.
