This is really sad for everyone involved and their families. I hope the survivors pull through ok.

Although the news sites don’t say whether seatbelts were used or not, it’s sad that we have to assume because of our personal experience.

Personally, I don’t understand why people don’t wear seatbelts. It’s 2024 and we should know better. It takes 1 second to put them on. It’s not cool to not have one on.

Going on a short drive is not an excuse either. Many accidents happen close to home. It sounds like the other car was turning into their road to go home. It burst into flames but the driver and passenger got out safe, most likely because they had seatbelts on.

Like OP said, please use seatbelts and dont let anyone in your car if they refuse to put theirs on. And teach your kids the same 😔

It really just proves how life can change in one passing moment, really sad day 😞

  3. Id really love to see the authorities , albeit Cypriot ones, invest in educating people on how to drive responsibly on this god forsaken island. Adding cameras at a selection of street lights just wont cut it.

The problem here is cultural. U have a laughable driving test and a driving culture that doesn’t adhere to road regulation cause they know they wont get penalized. No one respects the police. They have more respect for cameras cause thats where consequences come from

Add that to a “kseris pios en pu ime ego?” Mentality. And this is what u get.

Outside of my house for example. No pedestrian sidewalk and the speed limit is 50. U bet ur bum bum cypriots speed through there with 80. Put a camera there problem solved.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS is something that all decision makers should be taught. Im just seeing solutions that dont actually negate the main issue. Education and culture.
