      Worst thing about Irish politics is easily the hereditary nature of it. Scumbag failsons and useless faildaughters are sheltered and promoted because their dad or grandad was a good party man and had a “good name in the town”. So bizarre that this hasn’t died out yet and that the party would rather potentially crash out in Louth than pick someone else when you had multiple chances to bin this cretin off without upsetting the local branch. Surely his surname can’t outweigh the multiple toxic headlines he generates? At this stage you’d hope even the Dundalk Blueshirts would back Butterly over McGahon when it comes to the vote if just to avoid the potential damage he’d do to the party over the coming years as a TD as he clearly is a nutter.
