Well that’s very sad news if true. A legend is right, one of the good guys.

    2. Oh no! That’s shocking. Very sorry to hear that. One of the Irish comedy greats.

Ah, RIP John, a genuinely funny guy.
Recall him doing lunchtime gigs in Sligo RTC whenever he had a gig in town, and he was fuckin hilarious. Shortt was the straight man at that time, before D’Unbelievables, and Kenny was brilliant at the off the cuff stuff.
A good straight actor too, saw him a few years ago with Mary McEvoy in the Matchmaker plays, very ogod actor.
      RIP John.

Very sad to hear. The lightness of being, and Jon made the weight of life a lot lighter. Thank you for all the fun and laughter. Rest well

Ah jeez no, what a hilarious chap and was sound to anyone who wanted to chat to him after a gig.

His Eurovision role on Father Ted was absolutely brilliant.

Awh man, this is sad. Great memories of watching D’Unbelievables DVDs with the father when we were younger. Always hoped for a mini reunion.

    8. Pat Shortt started off as Jon’s roadie, playing sax as Jon got ready between skits. Clearly that bounced off each other so a duo was inevitable. Jon was the established artist and had charted with his reggae version of Spancil Hill. RIP

Still reference one line or another from D’Unbelievables most on a daily basis- original Irish comedy at its absolute finest. RIP Jon

Sad news, RIP. Remember watching the d’unbelievables videos back in the day. Nearly wet myself laughing.

About 20/25yrs ago we were heading in to a show in The Town Hall Theatre in Galway. Freezing cold dark night, pissing rain and it was bumper to bumper traffic around 7pm/7.30pm. We were all thinking there must be an accident up ahead. Then we saw the blue lights of a squad car and two Gardai in High Vis up around Woodquay in the City Centre.

Rolled the window down of the car “How are ye boys are ye heading in to the show. Ye would want to park her up fairly quick if ye want to get a few pints in before the show starts”

It was Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny out in the middle of the road dressed up as Gardai stopping cars. They had brought the whole fecking city to a standstill for a gag and I’d say half the people they pulled in hadn’t a clue who they were.

R.I.P Jon and thanks for all the laughs.

This man made me cry with laughter, now I feel like crying because he has passed. RIP John , forever making us laugh , never forgotten 😥

Jaysus he was carrying a lot of condition… This has genuinely upset me. The man was a staple of my childhood, and I still listen to Bridie’s Christianing when I need a laugh. R.I.P Jon, your influence on Irish comedy will never be forgotten.

His characters never felt like parodies which I think was what made them really funny.

      We all knew these people.

Great talent. He’ll be really missed.

      An amazing professional happiness maker.
This is my favorite moment, and piece of work of the two men as well.
A gorgeous voice. This is my favorite version of this song of all time. It’s well covered too.

RIP Jon, you brought joy to so many people and you will be missed

He was such a talented and varied performer that I’m sure people have different favourite memories of him. For me, it will always be D’Unbelieveables and especially the hurling coach.

I’ll have to pull out the VHS player and dust off the D’Video tonight to remember the great man.

“And go out there lads, and enjoy yourselves”

I worked in the Tivoli theatre in the 1990s as an usher.

After the interval, Jon and Pat would pretend to be ushers and would speak to the last few people taking their seats.

“Come on come on, this show isn’t going to do itself, you shouldn’t have been out there eating ice creams.”

There would always be one fella who would protest his innocence to which the lads would say, “Put that hand down now fairly feckin’ lively if you don’t want trouble.”

I saw them over a hundred times, always hilarious.

Aaah, no way . My father’s in hospital at the minute, and I downloaded load of videos onto his tablet to watch as there’s no WiFi in the ward . We watched the D’unbelievables Live and my father was in convulsions laughing at Jon Kenny doing the hurling coach skit.

” You insult his mother , his grandmother , his sister , everyone single one of his family. Your man hits you , you hit the ground and we get the free”

      RIP Jon…

RIP to him. He played two characters in Father Ted who were Michael Cocheese (owner of the cinema) and Fred Rickwood (Song for Europe host)

I still laugh from the Eurovision episode having the “You Dirty English Bastards” by the Hairy Bowsies and “Sha La La La La La La La La La La La La” by the Death Pigs in the background lol.

RIP Jon, a funny man that was loved and respected by the people. May he Rest in Peace.

An absolutely intrinsic part of how I view Irish humour (and Irishness in general come to think of it) – Kenny, Shortt and the cast of Father Ted defined funny for me before I ever heard of Seinfeld, Simpsons, Fawlty Towers etc.

Also a fantastic singer. The version he did of Summertime on D’Video was incredible

A real funny man had me pissing myself laughing in the days of the D’unbelieveables . Sad news to hear he’s passed.

Himself and Pat Shortt were an absolutely brilliant pair when they were d’Unbelievables. They were the funniest duo of their time without question.

      RIP Jon.
