    Submission statement:

Bangladesh’s Attorney General, Md. Asaduzzaman, suggested making big changes to the country’s Constitution, including taking out the word “secular.”

Asaduzzaman presented his arguments during a court hearing on the 15th Amendment’s legality before Justices Farah Mahbub and Debashish Roy Chowdhury.

The Attorney General said the changes “would align the Constitution with the country’s democratic and historical ethos”.

The three countries absolutely needed full population exchange because even with just 15-20 percent muslims it causes jihadi ruckus and difficulty in bringing progressive laws, while the 1-2 percent non muslim in pak and 7-8 in bang get their houses raided and women raped then forced married and converted.

Sardar patel thought that we can easily do with 37 million of them and it will not be that big of trouble but was he wrong.

It’s exhausting to have to watch obscurantism thrive in so many places around the world. The march of social progress seemed unstoppable in the late 90s.

The poor Hindus, Buddhists & Christians in Bangladesh 🙁

I am from Bangladesh, and this ain’t that concerning. The islamic parties in Bangladesh have never gotten more than 10-20 seats out of 300 seats in the parliament. The radical elements are there, but the ruling elite is largely secular.

I used to think Bangladesh must have some sort of special sauce that makes a majority muslim country not insane. Not anymore it seems

That’s why we have to defund religious institutions where possible. Religion is cancer.

Islam seems more than just a religion, it seems like an ideology, a real political player that offers a way of how government should work.

Although I respect real-life Muslims, and welcome them in my country (Brazil, they are not even 1% of the population), it seems that Islamism is incompatible with democracy and the few democratic Islamic countries are always struggling to maintain themselves. I just see the tension in Europe in the next years.

Okay let me put this in context. The AG is a known Jaamati. But I do not believe his word carries any weight in the current situation. The interim government or whatever you call this setup is determined to make an enemy of pretty much every stakeholder within the country. They are mistaking that a bunch of Jamaat affiliated student wings along with US support can guarantee them a path to do anything. But this is Bangladesh. And one has seen this circus act repeating itself time and time again since 1975. What is certain is that stability which was there before the quota protests turned violent would not come back for some time.

Some Bangladeshi love to bring up India’s minority issues. Sure there are issues, but we have a court and a system to take care of it. Justice might be late but it does come otherwise we would have seen people fleeing from India to the Islamist pandora’s box. The irony is that it is the other way around. Bangladeshi Hindus have pretty much decided to abandon the country as they do not hope for any sense of security let alone rights etc. The usage of Vested Property Act to take their land (and I know both AL and BNP were involved) and the violence stoked by Jamaat cells from the late 70s would make even Pakistan seem like a novice. And less said the better about Bihari Muslims in Bangladesh. Across the radcliffe, a Bihari Muslim is the mayor of the capital of West Bengal and one of the five metropolitan cities of India and the difference cannot be even more stark.

The core issue lies in the nature of Bangladesh. It is a false construct. It happens to be a nation where most people speak Bengali but it is not a nation for Bengalis. It is exclusionary. We think that in 71 the majority supported independence. All of the individuals sitting in the government are well known for either bullshitting about their contribution or their supposed pro independence view or active collaboration with the Pakistan Army until the very last moment. Anthony Mascarenhas had a name for them. “The 16th Brigade”. Meaning those who became Bangladeshis on the 16th of December due to the surrender of the Pakistan Army in East Pakistan to the Indian Army. These chameleons were first accommodated by Mujib with their fake Mukti Joddha certificate and what not, were one of the most corrupt people to exist. They showed their true face after 1975 and have now come to the government once again. Bangladesh like Bengal throughout history essentially boils down to anarchy, religious madness, oppression. While the bulk of educated Bengalis decided to stay with India and fight for her independence (Nazrul was an Indian nationalist but they took him to Bangladesh and claimed him as their own national poet. If there is injustice, this is one) and made up most of the prisoners in British concentration camps, the ancestors of the 16th Brigade collaborated with the British and destroyed the region.

  11. Two aspect

    1) Bangladesh is undergoing a big political crisis. Most people in power is a part of interim govt who wont be implementing anything. So it is not really wise to start putting absolute emphasis that this is happening.

    2) For geo-political angle, Bangladesh’s revolution pattern has similarities with Ukraine.

Ukraine faced situation where Russia instated pro-Russian president in their country (who is now exiled in Russia itself). Bangladesh also seeing their dictator fleeing to India who support her regime.

After the exile, just like how Ukraine started implementing pro-western and NATO alliance thinking coming out of Russian spehere lf influence, Bangladesh will also see their anti-Indian groups gaining power and maybe even get used by foreign powers as a proxy to destablize India further.

What happens from now to future is interesting tussle of geo-politics.

Every oppressive law Pakistan and Bangladesh pass against Hindus, Sikhs, and Christian’s, India should in turn pass the same law against Muslims. Maybe that would deter the Islamist crazies. Maybe

Surprise surprise, the most hateful and intolerant widespread religious philosophy is in fact, hateful and intolerant.

  14. It not going to end well isn’t it? And sadly not a surprise development too.

  15. Clarkthelark on

The most unsurprising development ever for anyone who knows what Bangladesh is. The population is full of extremists and highly radicalized, and an Islamic state that oppresses minorities would be extremely popular, but the presence of Hasina (a secular authoritarian) kept that in check
