The strap can get caught in the play buildings/toys, leading to strangulation
> I don‘t get it. It‘s like saying „don‘t wear protection“
Wrong. It says “don’t hang yourself”. When the helmet gets stuck you may strangle yourself unintentionally.
It’s actually for safety.
The play equipment in playgrounds is designed for children’s head size. This means that the distances between individual parts of the device are such that a child’s head does not get caught in them in an emergency. But if the children wear a helmet, they may strangle themselves.
Children’s play parks in Germany are very specifically designed to be safe without any equipment, according to very, very high standards, and are inspected by the TÜV to meet those standards. Helmets result in two things:
* A risk of the helmet getting stuck in the play equipment, causing harm to the child. This is the obvious one.
* But also, safety equipment causes the child or parent not to recognise the (calculated) risks that do exist in the park, and could cause them to e.g. climb higher or on more difficult play equipment than the child or parent would consider a safe risk boundary for them at their age. Without safety equipment, both children and their parents are usually much more aware of these risks, it has been found.
To add to the danger of strangulation: The height of the structures designed for climbing, combined with the material of the ground (often coarse sand or small-grain gravel, sometimes something rubbery similar to a gym floor or racetrack), make *serious* injuries from falling very unlikely. Kids might get a few scratches and/or bruises, but not fracture their skull or get a concussion. So not only is a helmet dangerous, it is also not particularly helpful in its intended function.
Often, the helmet ban is accompanied by a ban of [necklaces](https://www.vonelternempfohlen.de/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/20200611_192055-scaled.jpg) or [lanyards](https://www.deinschilderdruck.de/media/image/bb/bc/72/SP-02-C-04-R-Kinderspielplatz-mit-Wippe-8-Piktogramme-rot.png), which can get caught in similar ways.
Helmet is for falling on the ground, if you are using the playground it can get stuck or caught in something, resulting in strangulation
Because germans are fans of Darwins natural selection
Edit: /s 😅😅😅😅 obviously?! Wtf
Unfair advantage headbutting other kids ofc
Wait. Why is it closed for children above 14? I mean its likely that older children would not play on playgrounds but I feel like that is abit weird?
Always people posting this stuff coz they don’t read properly.
first: not you can’t but you mustn’t.
and why? safety. helmets get stuck. if the kid attached to the helmet is in free fall, the strap strangulates the kid or breaks it’s neck.
playgrounds are designed to be safe without helmet.
they are unsafe with.
A helmet can kill you very fast. I’ve seen this. I was at the military years ago. We had to climb different obstacles for training. There was a ladder like obstacle, rotated at 45° and 90°. One comrade fell between the rung of the ladder. The helmet broke his neck… dead. R.I.P. friend.
Probably has something to do with their ww2 history. No rallies, basically.
Ein gut Kopf hält das aus. Um einen schlechten ist es nicht schade.
A good head can withstand it. If it’s a bad head, it’s no great loss.
/s
Strangulation is a risk, but not the biggest.
The biggest risk is neck breaking or internal decapitation. The helmet or the straps can be caught in the equipment and the full force of a fall is on the neck.
it should strengthen davinism!
Because the sign says so. Now get back to work.
you could be king of the sandbox and perhaps headbutt other kids into giving you their butterbrezen and Rötbackchen juice
