People moved here from inexpensive countries: what are some surprising quotes you’ve heard for services here?

Holy shit, 59 € installing screen protector to a phone? Jaysis, lived her all my life and that shit sounds absurd!
To be fair the omron device is on a whole different category with the inbody measuring devices that for example fitness247 uses. For example inbody 770 costs 17k€ new.
I tried of justifying it. Couldn’t at all. There is no world where that markup makes sense, unless the margins are negative and there is nothing else bringing money in.
Well, buy the machine for yourself and start a service.
You’re not actually paying for the service, you’re paying for the time and money you save when you don’t have to do things for yourself.
Most people won’t be buying a €100 (useless) gadget, they opt to pay €24 instead.
Finland is an expensive country in more ways that one but I think it’s a good pay off for the infrastructure, education and quality of life here. Also pay is much better here than my home country so that’s appealing.
59euro seriously!! In my country people start a small screen protector business with that money
I’m more sad that for these prices I usually receive a pretty bad service. It might be my luck though.
From recent Finnish service fuck ups of this year:
1. Screen protector of my Honor V2 was applied badly, resulting in a need of a new screen. When that was installed, the front screen was not glued properly, so needed to reattach it.
2. Ventilation inspection in the whole yhtio went badly, in my apartment company screwed up recently painted wall, in all yhtio filters were installed incorrectly.
3. In spring official dealer of Honda bikes forgot to screw the oil nut during official service. On my other bike the belt was tightened incorrectly, retightened it myself.
4. During my car service Toyota failed to reset the service meter and messed up my seat memory module.
Botox injections, whether for medical or aesthetic purposes. I suffer from TMJ which leads me to have really bad migraines, and botox is the only thing that has helped me. It’s about ~65€ in Korea and ~400€ in Finland even after kelakorvaus.
I remember asking about getting a suit dry cleaned on my first trip to Finland in 88. Can’t recall exactly what they quoted me but it was definitely more than what I paid for the suit… 😛
Being from Ukraine everything is pricy. Food, rent, medical services. But considering that you don’t hear russian drones and missiles exploding around you every night, it is kinda worth it.
Anyway when I will need tooth implant I will go to Romania or somewhere.
Acrylic nails cost 90-130€ for the first time and 65-80€ for the maintaining. Pretty much everywhere else it’s around 30-35€ for the 1st time or retouch. And finnish technicians are painfully slow too, it takes 1,5h??? It should be 45mins with a good filing.
One time my laptop fucked up and I went to a shop to check it. Charged me 100 euro for the whole work. Then another 110 euro for a new charger. I learned my lesson.
Taking a pet to the vet. Why is so expensive for the same care? Even just for a regular check up is mad expensive.
How did you get this done? Do you need a referral to get the operation or can you just pay out of pocket and get it done? Long time TMJ sufferer here.
Data(internet) packages.
€48 for a male haircut. In Sweden I had it done for €30 and within 30 mins 🤷
We ordered a 70k product for work. Fucking job would cost 50k anywhere else but we said fuck it we are on hurry.
Idiots missed their deadline. For 2 months. They were applying for a tender for 600k for our company project. At the same time we wanted to add a simple crane to the 70k order. Like 2-3k max. These fuckers asked for 5k while not even apologizing for being late (in proper countries you see the big picture and offer it as complimentary for delayed work). Result: I throw down their tender offer without even reading.
Like how stupid you must be to risk a tender like this for 3k extra…
Same logic. 59Eur to install some bullshit 5 minute job? Yeah you lose next few hundred euros of orders. And if somebody is defending that, they are part of the problem. That’s why I love old school, real repair guys. Such as Bitmaster. They don’t bullshit you, and they do proper service. If I need repairs, I would just go there without trust issues and also send anyone asking for…
Not even starting car repair people and how big cheater they are.
I was charged 180€ for a couple of x-rays and checkup on my teeth. The whole thing only lasted like 15 minutes. I had to do it in a private clinic since my work insurance company doesn’t cover dental care. Luckily I was able to pay it with Epassi.
Remember the basic rule of thumb is that without any other expenses factored in, take the amount you’d want to get ( comparable salary), multiply it by 2 and add 25% VAT.
So if you’d need 20€, the customer has to actually pay 50€ for whatever service, for example installing that screen protector. Then factor in idle hours, risk of having to spend more time than expected etc.
So instead of complaining to the person providing service, I’ll just not use it and go for DIY. That’s how Finland works.
