if someone has residence permit for work on the basis of degree completed in finland, if they lose the job but are currently enrolled in another degree and attending, can they just switch back to a student rp?

can someone get rp for degree completed in finland a second time if they complete a second degree like a bachelor first and then a masters, assuming the first rp for degree completed is not active?

This autumn there have been a few articles about football players from abroad who’ve had dubious working conditions to say the least. [https://yle.fi/a/74-20121521](https://yle.fi/a/74-20121521)

What type of followup is there with clients and employers about the actual status of employment?

What kind of measures are put in place to help the immigrants against exploitative work conditions?

Thank you for doing this AMA, a very interesting topic!

How do the queues work? Genuinely curious since it seems random to us applicants. For example, I applied for Permanent Residence Permit early December 2023, one week before my friend and couple of coworkers did and all of them got their decisions in September while I am still waiting for mine

And people that applied earlier in 2023 or 2022 were getting their decisions in three months

If your employment related permit expires due to being fired, then can you switch to another permit type?

E.g. from employment to permit based on a relationship (not married for 2 years)

  5. if I have an employment residence permit for a specific business activity, is it allowed to buy and hold stocks on the side or would that be considered another form of business activity?

Similarly, would buying and selling some items in ebay be considered a type of business activity non compatible with the residence permit?

Hi there, wanted to ask that as a Research Assistant having Research visa and corresponding Residence Permit of type A, with almost 2500 euro salary, if I decide to get my parents with me can I do that? How much bank balance should i show for sponsoring them? Can they do a job if needed? Does Finnish government covers their medical needs especially in emergency?

Hi, I have a residence permit for work on the basis of the degree completed in finland for 4 years, and it will expire at the beginning of June next year (2025). So, which type of residence permit should I apply next and when should I apply for it?
Thanks a lot for your answer!

Can you describe how immigration has been commercialized in Finland by the same people who [make money out of commercialized unemoloyment](https://old.reddit.com/r/Finland/comments/1g9cjsa/exposing_the_commercialization_of_unemployment/)? It’s been over ten years since this phenomenon was in the news, and it has since been hushed up as a conspiracy theory, so it would be good if this topic could be brought back into public knowledge, especially for those who will be the victims of these legalized crimes…

    Hello,

I am currently working full-time at company with a working visa A. I am planning to switch to part-time work to pursue a full-time PhD. This means I will have 2 work contracts and receive 2 salaries. Does this affect my visa type A? Thank you very much.

If my application gets processed long enough so the previous RP expired. Can I wait for the decision abroad or should I stay in Finland?

Currently I have to regularly travel abroad and don’t have a chance to stay for long in Finland. I’m a bit worried about how long the processing will take. I’ve been waiting for two months already. My current RP will end in June. So I’m planning to move abroad and wait there, while working remotely.

Also, are there good and bad countries for that? We all know the political situation with some neighboring countries. Can it affect the decision if I regularly have to travel to one of the not the most friendly countries?

I hold a residence for work on the basis of degree completed in Finland. There have been a lot of discussions about holders of work RP on the basis of degree completed are no longer exempt from tuition fee. Do you have more information on this and how or when this will be finalized?

  16. I am in a situation where my work permit expires in december 2024. I still have valid work contract and job to apply for new permit. I am also eligible for permanent residence(PR) permit. I applied for PR last october. My employer is asking for new permit but I am not sure how long will my application time takes.

I sometime also need to travel for my work related stuff and since I am non an Eu citizen this is a problem for me.

What are my options here? How can I provide my employer with permit if processing takes more time?

Also what will happen if the PR application fails? Is work permit povided in that case?

  17. Does employment-based residency apply even in these edge cases?
    – Part-time work only (e.g. 1 day a week)
    – Very low salary (e.g. 100 euro per month)
    – Employed without salary

I would also like to know if you have any strict requirements for the “sufficient financial resources” basis of residence. Is it approved for someone who’s retired and unable to work, but has 1 million euro in the bank? What if they only have 100k euro? What if they only have 1k euro but are frugal enough to live like that?

  18. Hi, I have a resident permit from my job. I was hired as a specialist. The company currently is going through a bad phase and I might get laid off due to the same. I have a new offer where a German company wants to hire me as a contractor. Can I start my own company here as sole trader and take this opportunity? What do I need to do for my resident permit in this case? Can I apply for an extension resident permit as an entrepreneur?

  19. Flat_Low_1213 on

    Hi,

I was wondering how work-based permits are typically decided, as I feel there may be some subjectivity in the process. A friend of mine has a full-time job, but their permit application was denied. Are there other factors considered aside from the work situation?

Thank you very much for your answer.

    Hello,

With residence permit A (for specialists) is it possible to use Kassa (labor union) in case of layoff (lomautus)? of course with kassa payment salary requirements by Migri will be met.

Can a person who was granted a residence permit A, based on family ties apply for Kela benefits (unemployment)? Wondering, because one of the requirements is sufficient financial resources by sponsor, but even they are okay, can this person still apply for benefits?

Hi! I am a self-employed person with a tmi making more than 50k EUR gross a year and I have been paying tax for a couple of month now. However, I am living in Finland on visa A family ties and my wife is going University with a visa A student. Would there be any benefit for me to apply for visa A on working basis rather than family ties, for example, my wife will get the intuition fee deducted if she is on family ties visa?

I’m holding an A working specialist visa, what if I apply for an EU Blue card ? Do I need to return the RP type A ? And how does the time calculation for EU blue card compare to an A visa ? Is it equivalent?

    – Hello, I’m currently holding a student residence permit, which is about to expire. I am considering renewing my student permit, but I also work as an independent Wolt courier. I’m exploring whether it would be possible to change/renew my residence permit category from student to an employment-based permit based on my work with Wolt. My goal is to continue my studies while supporting myself through my work.

    – Additionally, would I need to be enrolled in my studies during the application for a work-based permit?

    – or can I apply for this permit even if I am not enrolled in the ongoing semester? (Thanks in advance)

When applying for permanent residency and citizenship, does the time that I have been in Finland with a B-type visa also count? I’ve been living in Finland since 2018 with a B-type permit and then switched to an A-type permit in 2022, so I’ve been here for 6 years, 4 years with B-type and 2 years (soon to be 3 years) with A-type.

  31. Organic-Cloudberry on

Hi! I applied my working visa rp (extended from B permit ended at the same time) and got new RP for working. However new RP A was not valid from the day my old rp was expired, it was valid a few months after that. And my RP type A only valid for 3,5 years instead of 4 years, my work contract is permanent and I’m still working at the same company since then. I just find out it’s very unfair when I need to apply for the permanent permit. For example I need 4 years continuously to apply for permanent permit and Migri gave me 3,5 years only, even my salary is enough for RP Specialist type as well. Right now I cannot apply for the permanent permit and have to apply for RP A again. It’s such a waste time and money to be fair. Waiting for RP A can take approximately 1-3 months or more, and a few months after that I have to apply for permanent permit again. Hopefully we can have a reasonable solution for that matter. Thank you very much for your time!

If I were to apply for student visa, which income requirement do I follow, if I have one child to bring with me. Is it, 800 per month and 650 for child or shl i go with 1250 for me and 650 for my son?
It is a bit confusing. Thanks.
