TLDR: A trustee in Ontario’s Niagara Catholic District School Board, Natalia Benoit, is attempting to ban the Pride flag from schools, citing adherence to Catholic teachings. Benoit was previously censured in January for comparing the Pride flag to the Nazi flag, which led to her suspension from board meetings. Despite the controversy, she is again pushing for the ban, arguing that no flag causing conflict should be displayed. The board’s education director supports the flag, calling it a symbol of inclusion for marginalized 2SLGBTQ+ students. The issue continues to divide the board and public.

She looks exactly like all the teachers I had growing up that sounded off about shit like this lol. Lemmie guess, her kids aren’t allowed to participate in Halloween?

It always amazes me that the most unChristian people in the world are the ones who profess the loudest that they are Christians.

  4. The sentiment of inclusion with the flag is nice. Just a thought, but I wonder if a colour was added for straight people, highlighting that all stripes of folks are included and can feel proud, would help to quash the negative reactions by women like this.

    >The rationale … is adherence to Catholic teaching,”

The Bible doesn’t say that. It says let the world be the fallen world it always has been, but through Jesus we can strive to be different. She’s making the mistake of forcing her beliefs on people that might be non-Christian.

It takes serious deranged logic to compare the two. Not suitable for office.

I can’t imagine wanting to spend this much of your time and energy on a flag.

Ok folks, putting the story to the side… why is Yahoo News serving a CBC story and why are we allowing this Yahoo xpost to be posted and not the original CBC story

Ffs practice what you preach. These people are shameful to the religion

It’s *incredibly* insulting to everyone that was victimized by the Nazis in WWII to compare the Nazis in any serious capacity to Pride, or for that matter the LGTBQ+ community as a whole, vaccine mandates, etc. etc.

Conservatism has to exist in a perpetual state of conflict in order to maintain itself. If it weren’t pride flags, this person would find something else to “fight” for the purpose of maintaining her position.

  12. god, i sure do love it when people intentionally misinterpret religion to make the lives of a group of people they don’t like a living hell

it sure isn’t frightening as a trans person to see more and more rules and regulations passed to make the lives of LGBTQ people markedly worse

  13. >”I think that it’s a sign of inclusion, a sign of acceptance — not a sign of promotion,” he said. “The Bible also says acceptance of others and that Jesus accepts everyone. I think that’s where we have to stop and reflect on the Bible… We do have a loving God and we do have an accepting God.”

Flying the flag of a controversial minority movement is not promotion? I think that logic would soon crumble if it were another controversial movement would it not? How does a Catholic school feel about flying a [Black Lives Matter flag](https://canadianaflag.ca/cdn/shop/files/Black-Lives-Matter-BLM-Movement-Raised-Fist-Canadiana-Flag.png?crop=center&height=840&v=1704309507&width=840)? They wouldn’t do it.

A flag is definitely a sign to the entire community of who you support, who you have allegiance to. Which is why most schools have a Canadian flag, and maybe one for their province in front. Political movements, which the LGBT movement has most definitely become, shouldn’t be on the flagpole. If you have school policies of acceptance and inclusion that’s appropriate. Promoting one specific special interest group, that can arguably be against the teaching of the Catholic church is pretty problematic.

People who havent read the Bible like to assume that Christ LOVING everyone means accepting everything they do as ok. Christ showed loved to all, He didnt condone or promote everything they did however and thats pretty clearly written. If they believe, as the Catholic church is supposed to, that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, it’s pretty clear.
