I see lots of folks denying the link between immigration and housing prices on a daily basis, so just to throw another source on the pile, from this article:
“We had the possibility of a COVID recession. We had these real labour market shortages, so we had to correct for that. Now we’ve got a lot of people coming in, and it’s putting strain on housing prices, on infrastructure.”
-Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
This interview tells me that the Liberals have learned that their previous messaging on immigration has become totally ineffective. Let’s see if they actually bother significantly changing their policy to align with their new messaging.
I can’t stand the Star sometimes – just lacks asking any of the difficult questions or doing a semblance of research that’s not from a government press release.
Why not ask the man what each temporary foreign worker for Tim Horton’s costs the country in healthcare costs, education, infrastructure, and housing? Because surely it is a lot of money, and that money is essentially going towards subsidizing Tim Horton’s ability to operate. Do we need all of those Tim Hortons in reality? I doubt it.
Why not question how the international student visa program has not been reduced – it’s a one expired visa out, one new visa in system – meaning the numbers always stay constant at the all time high.
I expect politicians to lie – but really, what happened to journalists in this country?
There are so many talented cabinet ministers in this government that have had their future political careers crash and burn or be heavily stunted due to it. Either via being the front in center of key policies, or who left/were forced out due to some sort of issue. For every Anand, that’s managed to maintain a sound reputation and avoid controversies, there’s so many Morneau’s, Raybould’s, McKenna’s, Garneau’s that faded away from political relevance or people like Freeland and Miller that stayed on, but are seen by the public as being tied to the hip to Trudeau.
When asked if immigration numbers are likely to come down in the near future, Miller replied:
>“I can’t speak to that. But there’s a conversation about it. There’s a world in which it happens.”
This is our immigration Minister, in the midst of the worst cost of living crisis in our countries history, which in no small part is being contributed to by the massive population growth his Government has been forcing upon Canadians, he can’t even speak to if we’ll reduce immigration.
I’m so glad Trudeau and the PMO decided to put Justin’s old college buddy in charge of this file, seems like he really has a handle on it.
“Consensus”?
I don’t remember there ever being a consensus on flooding the country with “students” who don’t study, so many TFWs that Canadians can’t get a job, and LMIA scams.
