Human Development Index or HDI is a composite index that takes life expectancy, education attainment and purchasing power into account to measure the standard of living of the people in a given region.

    2. It looks bad but even Mississippi is miles ahead of India’s *most* developed state (0.794)

WA gets a bad rap, but man it is awesome up here. Eh, I mean, it’s terrible up here. It’s always rainy up here and there are junkies on every corner. Nobody come here.

Which year is it for? I’ve seen data that the US average was 0.92 but in this case, almost half would be below the average then, hmm

    5. And Mississippi still has about the same GDP per capita as the UK!

I don’t know if this means anything. I’ve been to both WV and MS for tourism and they were both pretty awesome. Both were just beautiful and honestly, I could not tell how they were different in HDI in any way.

In fact one of MS’s top hospitals has one of the best mortality outcomes in the country.

    7. The choice of color is weird. There’s only a 0.1 difference between the top and the bottom but the color shift makes it look way bigger. Every color should have just been a shade of blue, otherwise it makes people think negatively about the HDI of the US despite it being a fairly small difference.
