Hallo, ich habe diese Ziegelerde gekauft, die 15 Minuten lang in Wasser gelegt werden muss. Ich suche nach Bewertungen, ob ich sie eher gegen Insekten behandeln muss, z. B. durch Erhitzen?

  1. Why not ask for the proper treatment in the Bauhaus you bought the soil?

  2. HatefulSpittle on

I use these for growing mushrooms (indoor too) and for that purpose they need to be rather clean as mushroom cultivation is a lot more sensitive to contaminants.

I’ve gone through countless coco coir bricks in my time and none ever had any insects.

The bricks are really dry. Not sure if they heated up to remove the moisture or the compression does the job, but the way they are stored is not conducive for insects.

To rehydrate the bricks, I bring water to a boil and just pour it on in a bucket until fully saturated. I just leave it like that and use it the next day or when it has cooled.

  3. I guess you mean Sciaridea gnats (Trauermücken).

There is a good chance they are in store bought soil and “sterilizing” it in the oven is something which helps killing their larva/eggs

But this seems Coconut fiber-substrate based, which they don’t like. They are prefering “moist” soil over dry one
(Odd that’s sold as flower soil, I use coconut fiber mostly for germinating)
