Albania aims to become a full-fledged member of the European Union by the end of the decade, its Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday, following the opening of accession negotiations he called “historic”.
Its either gonna be them or Montenegro that’ll be the newest EU member. All others are seriously lagging behind on key aspects.

Albania played phenomenal politics and in order to get EU accession. There is much to learn for other countries:
First they fully seize the geopolitical momentum after the Ukraine war, as did many others as well. Additionally, they perfectly recognized that they need to decouple from Macedonia, because the front runner Montenegro would be completely isolated and no land connection to EU territory. So they did a masterclass in marketing and decoupled from Macedonia in order to couple to Montenegro and rebrand them as Mediterranean Countries rather than Western Balkans. Albania also learned to court other important institutions in the Western World. Especially it made friends with international agencies like the IMF and other important people, took the reforms and ideas seriously and made great friends which could make a case in Brussels for quicker accession. It also persuaded Italy with a Ruanda scheme. For a publicity stunt Italy now is in Albanias debt, which will materialize in the negotiations. Albania is also smart enough to not get its history in its way. That is something that makes it stand out of the WB6 together with Montenegro.

I hope they make it and that it can be a good thing for them. I know Albania doesn’t have the best rep but people often don’t realise the shit they’ve been through, just how recently they got out of one of the worst dictatorships in Europe, how much progress they’ve made since then and how hard working they are.

Bring in Kosovo too. Might as well bring in both majority Albanian speaking countries together.

Yeah let’s add more ‘corrupt to the core’ countries. That will really benefit us.

Their prime-minister just praised Orbán a few days ago, and said that todays Hungary is a nice example for Albania to follow…
So be careful or the EU is gonna get another Orbán soon enough.

Please don’t… Albania is such an empoverished country which would drain EU more than it would contribute. The only reason for EU to accept Albania is out of fear of external powers to exploit the country.

I can guarantee that no country will join until the Veto Law in EU will not be reformed. We see what Hungary could do. Plus Albania is most of the secular muslim countries, but still pretty conservative if you look at the EU standards. I don’t see a world where everyone will agree for them to join so soon.

That’s a great aspiration, but once more: no new members until voting reforms.

From the above article:

“It is our aim to complete that process within this decade and be ready to knock at the door of the European Council as a member state,” Rama told reporters in Luxembourg, where an [**intergovernmental conference (IGC) was held**](https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2024/10/15/albania-kicks-off-eu-membership-talks-despite-political-turmoil-at-home) with the Balkan nation.
