Refining the definition and diagnosis of obesity could ensure the medicines used to treat it arrive to the people who need them and [reduce unnecessary stigma](https://www.salon.com/2024/01/07/restricting-obese-women-from-ivf-is-discriminatory_partner/) faced by people who are otherwise healthy but have larger body sizes.

    >“Many insurance companies are saying if your BMI is below 35, you have to start with a less expensive medication, and they won’t go straight to covering the GLP-1 receptor agonists,” Dushay said, referring to drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, which can be [extremely expensive](https://www.salon.com/2023/03/06/rich-people-are-hogging-ozempic-making-the-harder-to-access-for-people-with-diabetes/).

So now that its getting closer to force Health companies to pony up on this drug, they want to reclass it or change how to reclass it to not be a diease and thus not have to pay for it. CLASSIC!

it’s better to label them as diseases.

issues that are not diseases have been labeled diseases for a few reasons but the main one is so that the person may receive treatment.

as if you say that it’s developmental or ‘ self inflicted” then there not be much in terms of help given or offered.
