The South Korean military responded to North Korea’s detonation of the Gyeongui Line and Donghae Line inter-Korean connecting roads on the 15th by firing back at the area south of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced.

At around noon that day, North Korea detonated some sections north of the MDL on the Gyeongui Line and Donghae Line inter-Korean connecting roads.

In a text message sent to the Ministry of National Defense press corps that day, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff announced, “The North Korean military carried out detonation acts (presumed) with the purpose of blocking the connecting roads in the Gyeongui Line and Donghae Line areas around noon on the 15th,” and “We are currently deploying heavy equipment to carry out additional work.”

There was no damage to the South Korean military from this detonation. After the detonation, the South Korean military fired back at the area south of the MDL.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “The military is closely monitoring the activities of the North Korean military,” and “We are maintaining a full readiness posture while strengthening surveillance and alertness under South Korea-U.S. cooperation.”

North Korea’s demolition of the Gyeongui Line and Donghae Line inter-Korean connecting roads is interpreted as an intention to completely cut off the inter-Korean land route and build fortifications.

Earlier, the North Korean Army General Staff Department announced in a press release on the 9th, “Starting on the 9th, we will completely cut off the roads and railroads in our area connected to South Korea and begin construction to fortify them with strong defensive structures.”

This marks a serious escalation, with South Korea firing south of the MDL after North Korea reportedly destroyed an inter-Korean road. Tensions on the peninsula are clearly rising.

I really want to know what Putin promised KJU to get him involved in Russias “SMO”. Apparently a few North Koreans have already been killed in Ukraine and they are known to provide munitions. NK has been wrapped up in this war much quicker than expected.

  4. My wife and I have just got back to Seoul from a trip to the DMZ as this was all unfolding.

To say we were evacuated would be a little extreme but there was a definitive change of when we were ok to be in the DMZ and when we were not.

The situation at the the peace park after the DMZ were calm. We heard they have closed the observatories and might be moving people further away from the DMZ but we didn’t experience any of that while we were there

How long will we still allow Putin to encourage all those crazy weirdos around the world?

  7. Seems like NK is taking precautionary measures in case of escalation for sending troops to fight in Ukraine.
