Prague deputy mayor Zdenek Hrib told reporters on Monday that organised night-time pub crawls would now be banned.
“It will not be possible to have guided tours between 10pm and 6am,” he added.
Jiri Pospisil, another deputy mayor, said Prague city hall was “seeking a more cultured, wealthier tourist … not one who comes for a short time only to get drunk”.
How is banning pub crawls supposed to attract more tourists? Are there any “wealthier” tourists who go “yeah, I’d love to visit Prague! Oh, wait… they have guided night tours with beer? I better go to a difference city!”
It makes no sense.
I’m 52.
My generation has been going to Prague for cheap beers since 40 years ago, and I suspect they did it before as well. Why the hate now if it’s been done forever?
They should have just added a late night tax on the stuff people buy at these times.
You do realize us wealthy “cultured” tourists don’t visit bars at all in general?
We go to restaurants and private events and maybe an over-expensive nightclub.
What even is this lol
As unpopular as it sounds, you need to raise your alcohol prices if you want to remove that type of tourist. So many holiday to Eastern Europe primarily for the alcohol prices.
Why would I get plastered on 8€ a pint at home when I can on 1.5€ a pint in beautiful prague, which is only a 30€ round flight away?
I love Prague (it’s only a 2h ride from my german home) but have not been there for years because it gets worse every year. Stag parties every 10m, drunk 20-somethings from all over the world, tourist traps and scams all over the inner city. I understand people trying to capitalize on the hype, but there have to be boundaries. Prague is just another city trying to do something against the bad sides of mass tourism (see Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Loret del Mar etc.).
