TLDR: Neil Collishaw, a key figure in Canada’s anti-tobacco efforts, passed away at 77 after battling bladder cancer. A former Health Canada bureaucrat and later research director for Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada, Collishaw helped draft pivotal legislation in the 1980s, including acts restricting tobacco promotions and banning smoking in federal workplaces. He also worked internationally, aiding governments in standing up to tobacco companies. Known for working behind the scenes, Collishaw toured Canada with a lung cancer patient to highlight the dangers of second-hand smoke. He is remembered for his dedication to public health and advocacy.

I’m so used to reading about federal scandals I thought the title meant he committed forgery.

Can a public servant make such impact? The public service has not struck me as a place to make a change but rather where spirits go to die (sorry for being so grim but I am yet to see this for myself). I believe our country deserves the best, thus my question…

Canada is a better place today with regards to smoking than it was in the past.
Kids today are lucky not having smoking everywhere and everything smelling like cigarettes.

Canada has gone far off the deep end in over-regulating tobacco and the ability of informed citizens to make informed choices, unfortunately. One thing I didn’t know until recently was that they banned the sale of 100mm length cigarettes. My ex-girlfriend used to smoke those. She looked great with them.

RIP. Smoking is the dumbest fucking addiction there is.
I’m gonna quit as soon as I’m done this pack.

A true hero. It’s a shame that our elected officials take such a loose stance on peddling harmful substances to impressionable youth.

Does he have anything to do with the absolutely insane taxation or repression of the much safer than smoking alternatives?
