      This is madness.

      In 1978, UNIFIL was tasked with the following objectives:

      * confirm the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.
      * restore international peace and security.
      * assist the Government of Lebanon in ensuring the return of its effective authority in the area.

      None of the goals are achieved after 46 years.

      Why is the UN permitting an Iranian backed militia group to operate within this area and conduct military strikes against a neighboring country?

      UNIFIL actually did a fairly decent job. They helped improve life in the region which prevented people from being radicalized. People forget how difficult it is to fight terrorism. The United States with the strongest military failed to defeat terrorism in Afghanistan despite fighting the Taliban for two decades. Why do you expect a small and underfunded force to accomplish something the United States failed to do? For its size and for its relatively small amount of resources, UNIFIL accomplished a lot. They helped stabilize a destabilized region and provided aid to the populace preventing the radicalization of millions of Lebanese civilians. People need to give UN peacekeepers their due respect. They may have massive failures like what happened Rwanda, but many of their peacekeeping operations have brought peace or at the very least drastically lower the intensity of a conflict through humanitarian aid.

      No one gave a shit about how much UNIFIL was effective untill Israel started attacking them and the only comment people in this comment section came up with is how much useless they are.

      Firstly, some respect: they are soldiers from all around the world to restore peace. They do not have the means to eradicate Hezbollah and it’s not even their goal, they are a paece keeping troup not a belligerant force. They couldn’t do nothing when the situation escaleted and they are in great danger right now. It’s very easy to judge while enjoying the confort and security of your home.

      Also, could you please stop to blame ANYONE for Israel worngdoings except Israel itself? This time it is quite clear that they are in the wrong and should stop. Attacking UN troops is war crime and should not be permitted.
