Of course it’s driven by greed. It’s a capitalist enterprise…

  2. > “I was shocked by how much profit is made [by ticketing],” Smith said. “I thought, ‘We don’t need to make all this money.’ My fights with the label have all been about how we can price things lower. The only reason you’d charge more for a gig is if you were worried that it was the last time you would be able to sell a T-shirt.”

    > He continued: “But if you had the self-belief that you’re still going to be here in a year’s time, you’d want the show to be great so people come back. You don’t want to charge as much as the market will let you. If people save on the tickets, they buy beer or merch. There is goodwill, they will come back next time. It is a self-fulfilling good vibe and I don’t understand why more people don’t do it.”

    > “It was easy to set ticket prices, but you need to be pig-headed. We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. “Oh, we didn’t know,” they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either f–king stupid or lying. It’s just driven by greed.”

  3. I just paid nearly $300 just in fees for 21 Pilots for 6 tickets for my family. It was close to 50% of the ticket price. No other business does this, right?

  4. It’s true. Unfortunately, patrons own some responsibility. I don’t stand for it and haven’t for quite some time.

Yeah it sure is! Artists have a choice in how tickets get priced and who they tour under. Fans also are responsible to a point in paying for these prices. We want change? We as fans need to demand that our favorite touring bands break away from Ticketmaster/live nation and play smaller venues at reasonable prices.

You know one year of not playing these games would stop this pretty quick. We have to work together and not support these practices. Let the show be sold out and the stadium empty.

We need to start supporting the artists that advocate for lower ticket pricing and boycott the people who do not.

Biden’s DOJ is bringing lawsuits against Ticketmaster because of their anti-competitive practices and have plans for more. If you hate Ticketmaster and BS charges, vote for Kamala.

A Trump administration would likely kill the existing suit since he cares most about corporate profits at the expense of common Americans.

One of the few Artist that put his money where his mouth is and stand up to Ticketmaster.

The Cure’s recent tour capped prices very low.
I saw them in CA for only $35 per ticket.
They did this while selling out venues like Hollywood bowl 4 nights in a row.

Other artists could do it too, they just don’t.

  10. And this is why scalpers will continue to exist.

If you charge the prices fans want, scalpers buy them and take the arbitrage.

If you charge the market prices, fans and artists will scream and say you’re a greedy corpo bastard.
