Yes, the situation looks like European weaponry is much more… probable, so to speak. And easier to maintain. Hail SI!

FFS, didn’t Ukraine say they didn’t want the Gripen?
Perhaps it was a political stance to not annoy the US who were donating the F16.
I did think it seemed a bit odd as the Gripen appears to be easier to maintain, with a smaller ground crew requirement, and able to land on highways and shorter runways.
If I remember correctly the reason why the F16 was preferred was it was a better weapons platform, able to carry a wider variety of ordinance. Is that true or was it an excuse used to justify the F 16?
Also, there was a question as to how many Gripen would be available for Ukraine to use.

The F-16 is possibly too much for Ukraine to handle right now. One tiny mistake in maintenance and the plane falls to ground. It’s just that the Gripen isn’t going to be as offensive as the F-16 since it won’t have as many missles or bombs attached.

I’ve been saying since the beginning that the Gripen is a great fit for Ukraine’s needs. The aircraft’s ability to operate from highways and its low cost compared to other Western aircraft make it a shoe-in.
It’s a shame the US didn’t just write a blank check for Gripens to the Ukrainian air force.

That’ll do the trick!
Will this be the real game changer?
