An off-the-cuff comment about reproductive rights by Republican Bernie Moreno in Ohio’s tight Senate race has put abortion at the center of debate in the most expensive Senate campaign this year. And that’s just where the incumbent Democrat, Senator Brown, wanted it.

Mr. Moreno insists he was joking after cellphone video surfaced of him criticizing women whose votes are driven by concerns about government involvement in abortion decisions.

    >“Sadly, by the way, there’s a lot of suburban women, a lot of suburban women that are like, ‘Listen, abortion is it,’” Mr. Moreno said at a town hall at Warren County on September 20.

    >The GOP candidate added: ”‘If I can’t have an abortion in this country whenever I want, I will vote for anybody else.’ OK. It’s a little crazy, by the way, but — especially for women who are like past 50, I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t think that’s an issue for you.’”

The man is utterly unfamiliar with the concept of caring about other people.

Says a man who uses government involvement to enrich himself

  4. And Ohio has already shown up to the polls in support of abortion rights. He deserves to have this cost him dearly. Would be something if it affected the Presidential race, too.

  5. One of the things that stupid people do is think of things to say (or steal something someone else said) that they think makes them sound clever. He honestly expected people to hear that and think “Good point!”

  6. When even Nikki Hailey says you’re tone deaf, you know you done fucked up.

It’s time to end gender affirming care for Republicans. No more viagra and testosterone for those limp dick pansies.

Roevember is coming! VOTE your daughter’s reproductive freedoms are at risk!

  9. MaximumManagement765 on

Republicans see women and solely the property of men and seek to control their sexuality.

  10. Fuck this guy.

I am over 50 and I will never need an abortion again in my lifetime. But my reproductive-aged daughter might, and my granddaughter also might someday.

There is no logical reason why they should have less rights to their bodies than I did at their age.

    >…but — especially for women who are like past 50, I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t think that’s an issue for you.

This says a lot about the Republican mindset generally. The certainly believe in self-interest and assume that is all anyone cares. He doesn’t understand that to run a free society requires **enlightened** self-interest. It is that enlightenment that makes women over 50 (and men of all ages) oppose government-forced birth.

That’s it, GOP, “tell it like it is”! We the American public want to hear your opinions and policies out loud. Please proceed….

I’ve already voted against this asshole. I hope to God he loses…

The woman’s ability to procreate should never be used against her.

  15. Imagine caring about what happens to other people. Republicans can’t.

It still blows my mind — though I fully accept it — that these people can’t even conceive of empathy. It doesn’t occur to them that even I, as a 50-something man, still has abortion access near the top of my list because *I care about other people*. And that informs all my political positions: caring about people who are unlike me. Caring about people who are facing different issues than me. Of course we all care about our own interests, but it is crazy to me if someone stops there.

  17. It always feels good when I cast my vote for Senator Brown. He is one of the most effective sitting Senators. He actually author bills and gets them passed. Brown only wears suits made in Ohio. That’s class.

Republicans, they are just like you and me, they just had their empathy surgically removed. Life is easier if you don’t care about other people after all.

Not to add pressure to you guys (well kinda) but as a Canadian I’m very worried and hope Kamala wins. Because your politics have seeped into ours. Too many of our politicians and citizens are mini magas. It’s scary. If you guys are lead by a progressive leader then we have a better chance for our next election.
Thinking of you guys and wishing you all the best for you guys and for us. 🇨🇦

If you don’t understand the concept of protecting the rights of people other than yourself, you shouldn’t be running for office. Because that will literally be your job if you win.

  21. In that same ad, he also says he believes in no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the mother. He goes on to say that women need to take some personal responsibility, that you don’t get pregnant going to Kroger’s

  22. Much as I hate seeing Democrats lift up these candidates to give themselves better races, you gotta love when the Donald endorses the most polarizing one.

  23. By that logic, I don’t need to care about anyone’s else’s rights if I’m not part of their group and could be affected.

I am a man with two teenaged daughters, and if the government thinks they can force my daughters to have a baby from a hypothetical rapist they can drop dead! I will fight to protect my daughters’ futures!

  25. cwbradford74 on

The sad thing is, that republicans act like an unwanted pregnancy isn’t a financial and economic issue for women and their families. Or, they just don’t care. I think it’s the latter.

If they say things like this in public, what are they saying behind “closed doors”?

  27. Then why are so many old men so obsessed with it?

Or is he trying to say he’s going to mind his own business?

  28. Maelefique on

If it’s not a Right worth caring about (at any age), why do they care so much about taking it away?

  29. motherofdogz2000 on

He can go f himself. I know women over 50 still menstruating so he’s a moron of the highest caliber. Hell I didn’t stop till 51. He prolly doesn’t even know what the word menstruating is. He probably calls it “the curse “ as if he’s stuck in the past. Oh wait, he is.

No men should voice any opinion on abortion, think either way but keep it to yourself until you’re pg
