Nice idea but that only matters if the US is willing to send troops to kill Russians in Ukraine. I strongly doubt that is the case, which renders it a meaningless gesture. Even if their membership happened after Russians were expelled from some regions there would be no actual NATO military forces in Ukraine willing to fight if they return.
