I wanted to share from r/MapPorn but somehow it didn’t work. Here is the link to that thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1g2709m/sunshine_duration_in_hours_per_year_united_states/
It seems to be some area between Zürich and Basel (AG, BL), but can’t specify more.
Looks like south of the Jura chain. Olten? It is a sad place.
Mittelland, the place of fog.
Grew up there. Moved to Zurich and told my roommate how great the winter has been. She responded with : „But there‘s been fog every day“ „but at high altitude, not here down below“
It looks like between Jurapark and Baden, Canton Aargau. But there’s no mountain there. Only hills. Nothing to cast a shadow.
Tbf if you want to take in consideration any mountain position the alpine region would be spotet by blue dots … I life in the yellow zone yet we nearly all day in the shadows in winter and only get liek 1 or 2 hours more in summer
Fog
It’s basically the most-populated, flattest area.
Why? I’m not so sure, but I’d say fog/clouds/bad weather in the low parts, coupled with the Alps as a big influence on the weather
Here’s another higher res picture:

(It might not show 100% the same thing as the other map. This one is average solar radiation, while yours was sunshine hours)
