Rhode Island has potholes by its beaches that would fit an 18 wheeler. The state is an absolute shithole.

I feel like it should be “how many potholes per lane-mile of roads”.

I’m going to make a point that the states with the highest number of complaints are also the states with the largest metropolitan areas. So these areas have more and worse potholes because of their populations? Maybe. But it’s also possible that having the highest amount of people increases the likelihood of more individuals that are eager to complain publicly and loudly about whatever problem catches their attention at any given time. Just saying.

Complaints per kilometer of roads seems like a flawed metric considering roads with more throughput will get more complains per pothole. Maybe the roads in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming aren’t better. Maybe there’s fewer people to complain. Complaints per person would be a better metric on how the state of potholes is impacting people as a whole.
toadjones79 on
This is complaints, not actual pot holes. I’ve lived in several states. Utah has far fewer potholes than Wisconsin, but rates as more. But Wisconsin is more used to them, almost proud of the harsh environment they live in. So they complain far less.

This is the highest number of “Reported Potholes”. Reported potholes likely lead to more potholes fixed. Meaning that the data reported here is almost certainly way different than what is represented

Growing up and learning to drive in CA but living between NY, IL, and LA, I have to say that the Louisiana potholes are more prevalent and destructive. California:isn’t that aggressive and NY are more upstate. With Louisiana, you need an insurance plan for your suspension and tires.

I feel like Illinois’ pothole counts are skewed by Chicago suburbs. Central and downstate is a hot mess.

This is so weird.
1) The title doesn’t say it’s per-length of roadway
2) It should probably be per-length-per-lane of roadway, but I digress
3) The legend has the high scale on the left with the low scale on the right
4) Their own blurb on the left explaining how it’s per mile has RI at 24.3, while the map has RI at 23.4

We literally need to repave our roads every decade because of how bumpy they get. Winters do a lot of damage on them.

Oklahoma is significantly smaller than Texas, and might actually have more pot holes across the entire state than Texas does.

Yeah it might only be a five. But there’s no reason to complain about potholes when you basically live in a pothole, South Carolina do better.

Been to most of these high and low states. Can’t speak for the west coast. But Louisiana and the East….rough. The state border inbetween Tx and La is so weird. You are driving and smooth highway in Tx, hit the border and suddenly bump bump! And Montana and Wyoming, yeah like none. I remember in the town I lived in in Mt, they had a pot hole formed on a corner. It made the local paper. It was a bit satirical for sure but still rare enough to be jokingly written about.

From hawaii. Can confirm roads are shit. Yet our vehicle tax (we have to pay yearly for “registration ” of our vehicle) is high. It’s based on weight of vehicle. So a big suv or truck you’re paying more than a sedan rationale bring a heavier vehicle will tear up the road more. I used to have a big full size suv my yearly registration was $600 a year. Yet our roads are among worst in nation
