To the surprise of no one paying attention. It wasn’t about actually reducing gun crime, it was about placating supporters to garner votes. 

If it *was* about reducing gun crime, the government wouldn’t have hid behind cabinet confidence when asked for legal gun crime data to back up their ban/buy back plan. 

The gun grab was purely political to score cheap votes from the uniformed and know nothing about the gun laws in Canada.

Unlike our American cousins, it’s a privilege, not a right. With every licensed owner having to be vetted through police checks, renewals every 5 years and having to take a course in firearms safety. You have to know when and where your allowed to use them.

With it being a privilege no legitimate gun owner is going to use their firearms in a crime because they can lose their entire collection. If a firearm owner does commit a crime, their license can be voided and they would have to forfeit their collection or sell it off to other legitimate card holders.

There is absolutely no difference in between the semi auto “assault rifle” and a semi auto hunting rifle other than black plastic. The term assault rifle is purely a made of term and no the “AR” in AR 15 does not mean that. It means ArmaLite as in the manufacturer. Canada has made it illegal to own full auto since the early 70s if I remember correctly and anything new sold does have to meet the requirements the government sets out for each class of license.

Millions of dollars wasted much like the gun registry the liberals put out in the 90s…nothing accomplished in lowering gun violence just showboating at the tax payers expense.
