      Small boat crossings have been going on for six years at this point and we’re no closer to solving it than we were back than. It’s clearly a threat to the security of the British public as demonstrated by the article and has other unpleasant social and economic affects. But there isn’t a plan at all to deal with it. Are we just meant to tolerate this forever?

      Why can’t a democracy be hard on these people? By being too lenient, most democratic institutions lose credibility and in the long run will turn into illegitimate autocracies.

      Obviously this is an horrific crime and I’m glad he’s been caught and charged because only a tiny percentage of SA crimes in this country end in a conviction.
      I just find it so weird how if one asylum seeker commits a heinous crime people then say that every other asylum seeker is a rapist or violent.

      Wonder why this isn’t the case when a white British man commits a crime? The majority of SA and rape that are charged and prosecuted (which is a tiny amount compared to arrests) are committed by white men.

No doubt some should have been deleted, but I read two or three of the comments at the top of the thread before they were deleted and they seemed reasonable.

      Weird that one side the argument is that there’s so many of them that they’re completely overwhelming us, and then the other side of the argument is pointing out undeniably awful things done by a single individual from that group, as if they’re all criminals, when in fact crime committed by these people seems relatively low as a percentage of the population.
