> Saoirse Ronan recently appeared on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast and remembered the dramatic casting switch that occurred during the making of Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones.” The director originally cast Ryan Gosling as the father of Ronan’s protagonist, but the actor was replaced by Mark Wahlberg just days before filming after Jackson disagreed with Gosling’s decision to gain 60 pounds for the role.
> “I think I just loved Ryan and his dog, George, and I was just sad that, you know, he wasn’t gonna be around,” Ronan said. “But I think the reasons why they parted were totally valid, and I’ve spoken to both [Gosling and Jackson] now and it happens. Do you know what I mean? It’s not personal, necessarily. It’s like sometimes you’re just not on the same page.”
Mark Wahlberg was a terrible choice. What an odd, unpleasant film.
Ryan Gosling is only 14 years older than Saoirse Ronan, he should never been hired in the first place to play the dad of a teenager when he was still in his 20s
Stanley Tucci was absolutely *terrifying* in that movie.
Just more continued oppression against those of us cultivating mass.
I totally cannot imagine a fat Ryan Gosling
That movie started my obsession with true crime
Is there a picture of Fat Ryan Gosling out there?
What an awful movie. I can’t believe Peter Jackson churned out that saccharine snooze-fest. It’s like three different movies all strangling each other to where nothing really happens. There’s very little tension and the ending is laughable. There are a few solid performances in there but we spend too much time with Mark Wahlberg hamming it up.
Imagine if it was a women.
This story always makes me laugh.. he just decided to put on 60 pounds.
Ryan, what were you thinking?
That seems like an insane thing to do without the approval of the director.
