      Very curious about how the Dominican Republic scored lowest in NA. Even if Haiti isn’t included, I still feel like there are other countries that should theoretically be lower

      I don’t like that happiness index because developed doesn’t really means happiness, Finland has insane suicide and a very depressive climate while in many of these African countries many people would be smiling and laughing together enjoying their lives despite the poverty

      This is arbitrary and kind of bullshit. Pakistan with all its crazy issues, more than India? And countries in war higher than India, Thailand etc?

      Literally all the top 10 countries are from western europe lol. This global happiness index is the most bullshit ranking I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of misleading ranking. I don’t know why they keep getting posted every year, the folks in r/europe keep circlejerking it and I’m surprised no one call them out on it.

      When you’re dependent on medication to be happy, are you truly happy?

      Interviewee: Well…, I have a $300,000 student debt, there is more and more violence in the streets, more polarization in politics, I am out of work, my leg hurts a lot but I cannot afford to go to the doctor….

      Interviewer: Don’t tell me about your life, are you happy?

      I’ve spent a lot of time in Zambia (worked there in two stints). I cannot believe that their happiness levels are below any country in Europe or Asia. Most upbeat, cheery, encouraging, happy people I’ve met in my life – miles ahead of 99.9% of Europeans.

      This looks like the question is actually “how happy are you with the amount of money you earn”.

      It is always surprising when these developed countries appear in this happiness index and also in the consumption of antidepressants is high… some truths are better seen without knowing everything that underlies them.

      I grew up among Finnish immigrants, and I never saw a happy one. Maybe it’s because we were all stuck in less happy Canada.

      I see Bhutan, the supposedly happiest country in the world, doesn’t have a rating, putting it on par with countries like North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Haiti, Syria , Eritrea, Angola, Papua New Guinea and Rwanda.
