Internationale Studierende verdienen besser als in Kanada geborene Absolventen an der UW, heißt es in einer Studie

This is largely explained by a concentration of international students in high earning fields, typically in the STEM fields.
>“Their earnings advantage appears to be growing over time and is entirely accounted for by their relative concentration in engineering and technology fields,” the report reads.
Where’s the study on students who went to Conestoga College?
The Ontario government gave about 80 per cent of its international study permit allocation to colleges this year, and only about 15 per cent to universities, which Prof. Skuterud calls a “quantity over quality” approach. The group that has the lowest earnings one to two years post-graduation are international students who graduated from college. “The best indicator of high human capital is a person’s expected future earnings in Canada,” he said. “Every time you prioritize a college graduate with a business diploma, which is what’s happening, you’re de-prioritizing a computer science graduate from Waterloo. To me, it’s a really bad trade off.”
I’m so happy for the international students. They work so hard. We have a labour shortage existential crisis and they are essential to solving that. I need prompt service at Tim Hortons and Walmart.
I think Canadian born students are lazy if they can’t find jobs. Maybe they should drop their resume off in person, look the hiring manager in the eye and give them a firm handshake if they want a job. Worked for me in the 1970’s.
I worked hard with no high school education, supported a family with only my income. Bought multiple properties and vehicles. If you can’t do that you must be lazy.
I hope Mr Trudeau stays in power and keeps Mark Millar as the immigration minister. They are doing fabulous work. They earned my vote.
I am a hiring manager in electrical engineering. There is a MASSIVE imbalance in foreign students vs Canadian born students as far as qualified applicants. Not even close. Qualified foreign students win by a huge margin, at least in my industry.
For any Canadians here that don’t like the influx of foreign talent taking ‘your jobs’ time to get off your ass and get to work.
To be expected. Nothing new here. Most international students I see are enrolled in highly paid tech or scientific fields. Of course they may be taking some of the spots available in these institutions from Canadian born individuals who would like to get into these fields of study. Who knows we don’t have that data available to us.
>a team of economists at the University of Waterloo have completed one of the most comprehensive studies into labour market disparities between Canadian-born students and international students after graduation.
No mention of controlling on average income by major after graduation or controlling for the representation of of international students in different fields.
>This is largely explained by a concentration of international students in high earning fields, typically in the STEM fields.
lmao, great analysis guys
>But Skuterud has his eyes closer to home and is interested in running the same analysis for Conestoga College, which received 32,000 visa permits in 2023 for international students, more than any other school in the country.
>“They asked me to write a proposal, I wrote a proposal, and they said no,” he said.
>“But I haven’t stopped trying.”
Telling.
It makes ample sense waterloo is advocating on attracting more global talent, they’re one of the best engineering schools in the world, if 70% of international students are staying in Canada that’s a very good thing for the country. However, [given that ~84% of comp. eng. grads from Waterloo go to the states](https://uw-se-2020-class-profile.github.io/profile.pdf), it seems like a deeper analysis is necessary before making any policy decisions here.
If an international student is likely to have a positive impact on Canadian society this is good, if they’re just using UW and then jumping ship to the US, that doesn’t seem like a good deal for Canada.
International students vs international “students”.
Take a look at some provincial curricula for Math and the Sciences. Work ethic is one thing, but our piss poor secondary education might also explain why domestic students are at a disadvantage.
Yeah, our bar for immigration is really low
Coz folks are busy studying psychology or arts. 😆 🤣
