Is this higher than normal for these countries? Like if we look over the past 40 years or so…

Remember seeing this post before and some people doing mental gymnastics to explain why Eastern Europe is now safer including EEs not reporting burglaries, lol

Emphasis on “reported”. You are much more likely to report something if you know the police/insurance will act.

It must be because in Sweden people report these crimes more and how they do statistics. In reality it’s better there.

A quick counter to the “muslims bad” take – most of those top 10 cities are not large immigration hubs, in fact most of them are in former east Germany where there are less Turks and Balkaners. Heavily Turkish Cologne or Frankfurt seems to score lower.

i like how all the racists are saying it’s because of immigration, when the actual reasons are 1.) population centers and 2.) poverty

Burglars know better than to cross the Scottish or Bavarian borders.

Interesting that Germany overall looks quite low, yet has eight of the ten cities with the highest burglary rates

These maps are completely meaningless for international comparisons.

Different countries have different definitions of crimes, different recording rules, different reporting rules, different data collection procedures, etc. etc.

They are often also useless for comparison within the same country over many years, because all those things change within countries as well.

    >Directly comparing crime figures between countries may be irrelevant or invalid, resulting in misleading inferences or incorrect conclusions. This is because criminal justice systems, crime definitions, and crime statistics can vary substantially between countries.

    >As a general rule, comparisons should focus upon trends rather than on levels.

Der is no burglar in Italia (at 13, they stole my bike when I was hanging out at the pool with my friends – I’m still pissed off about the fact that *mine* was the only bike stolen!)

Why is Bavaria so low in comparison to the redt of Germany, and holy fuck, what is wrong with Danmark and Sweden?

  16. haringkoning on

Probably unpopular thought: more eastern Europeans in Western Europe means less burglars there and more here.

Jesus. Do people in France, Sweeden, and Denmark have nothing better to do?

  18. Nicco_Mario on

The burglars stole the data coming from Italy, Norway and Hungary

Are the countries in grey not forthcoming with their crime stats?
