A real shame. His work is some of the most creative and outspoken commentary cartoons that I have seen.

    >de Adder, who was recently awarded the Order of Canada, was released by Postmedia, which purchased SaltWire Media earlier this year.

While I’m not surprised that Postmedia is immediately cutting jobs, and potentially benefits, after buying I am surprised they picked someone so high profile in their first wave. Usually they hammer the local reporters with constant cuts in benefits and pay, until they eventually pay them the equivalent of less than 8 dollars an hour for a job that requires a university degree.

Seems like this is more a political decision dictating the journalistic direction of the paper, than financial as he still draws lots of eyeballs which is money.

If people still don’t believe it, or want a preview of what Postmedia will do to eastern journalism, see their treatment of local publications, and journalists, after they bought most local publications in the prairies. If you really look at places like Manitoba you can see Postmedia actively harming local news coverage in areas like Southern Manitoba, where the second highest concentration of population is, by having no local news after Postmedia shut everything down and channeled traffic to national sites. Postmedia claimed Winnipeg would pick up the slack but that is laughable. Thankfully locals knew to create their own source of local news and so it survives no thanks to Postmedia.

As I’ve said several times previously, Postmedia buying east coast journalism was the beginning of it’s death. It’s about first forcing national editorial views on the staff, and then silencing the voice entirely by shutting them down after making full time, university degree required, workers write for less than 17k net a year, until they quit and then get a nrw crop, and sucking every last profit out while cutting everything they can.

Postmedia being involved in your media is never a positive unless you are marching lock step with them, if you’re a local journalist you better brush up the ol resume.

No idea how DeAdder got the order of Canada? A serious wtf moment.

A liberal cartoonist cut by a newspaper owned by a blue American company. Shocker.

Downvote all you want. PostMedia is clear in who they are and so is he.
