  1. There is a conspiracy theory that there were 20-45 minutes of footage that Kubrick refused to have removed from the film and they were only removed once he died.

Various theories suggest that the deleted scenes may have depicted a real satanic ritual, including elements like cannibalism, human sacrifice, and child sexual activities. Despite the speculations, no one has seen a single second of these alleged missing minutes.

I believe it was actually released on the 30th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing. Not by coincidence.

  3. Many movies made in the late 60s-on up depict gruesome acts of cannibalism and/or satanic ritual in many forms. I don’t think, as OP mentioned in his SS, that the scenes deleted were of that nature.

What compelled the studio execs to cut film had to be on another level of need.

Kubrick was calling out people in the movie. He used masks and names.

What do you think the last name Harford might mean. Break it apart and look again. Har-ford.

The golden mask security dude is an obvious nod to Bob Hope. I think the execs saw WAY too much calling out, even if esoteric in nature, and had to remove it since Kubrick was associating the party/mansion scenes with these elites. They also may have removed parts of the costume shop scenes – NOT because Stan was too explicit, but that it included the calling out of names/people through symbolism that they had caught-on to him doing in his movies over the years – and this was the last straw.

Many people close to Kubrick throughout his career said this is bullshit. The Final Cut of the film was finalised before his death.

This title makes it sound like they cut scenes out of The Matrix. I thought it was Eyes Wide Shut that had a bunch cut out of it. Or was it both?

Kubrick was complicit in hiding things for the corrupt film industry and NASA. (fake moon landing) You cant do that and then tell on them later without risking your life. He seemed to be very contradictory….making films about secret mind control programs like mk ultra (clockwork orange) and then later revealing freemason rituals. I think he did himself in.

  7. I read about this way back in the early internet days. The consensus is that it was a scene that depicted a human sacrifice of a willing young woman. It was supposed to be boarderline pronographic and very bloody, lots of gore. The studio said no way, they would get tagged with an NC17, and thought it was only for shock value.

One thing that is *not* clear if the scene was actually filmed, partially filmed, or only planned and there was no footage at all. From all the digging I got the feeling it was filming, so there was some footage, but was halted and that footage was destroyed or hidden forever after Kubrick’s death.

What’s funny is back in the early 2000’s it seemed easier to get information then it does now. Back then there was a lot less misinformation and speculation for clicks and attention then there is now. I know being 25 years later has a lot to do with it, but it’s hard to find any info you can really sink your teeth into about Eyes Wide Shut anymore.

  8. The co-writer of the screenplay, Frederic Raphael, is still alive, per Wikipedia, though certainly quite old at this point.

If the film were edited from the original in some substantive way, perhaps Raphael could shed light.

I’m not equipped to take this lead any further personally, but think it would be interesting if someone were able to.

Movie didn’t even expose anything of substance which is why I don’t understand why conspiracy theorists love it so much. Where was the human sacrifice, torture, etc. Not saying the movie needed that to be good but including that would have been the ultimate truth, not just that elites play dress up from time to time. I suppose that could be what was cut from the movie.
