      “Gig economy”

      Love that euphemism for a system of exploitation that contravenes basic worker protections and unions by calling their employees “independent contractors”.

      I say we just bring back serfdom and call it the “freedom economy”. Free room and board, great job security!

      By “Gig Economy” they mean unregulated industries that circumvent labour laws by claiming their employees all as “contractors”?

      We need laws that make sure companies cant just treat workers as non-workers. A fucking uber driver is a taxi service and a worker as is a uber eats driver is a worker.

      We need more rights for workers.

      This is why I’m a supporter of (well-designed) portable benefits; it gives employers and employees flexibility making the labour market more efficient, supports employment dynamism (one of the largest inhibitors to wage growth), can allow employees to pick the benefits which suit them, and covers gig workers and non-full time workers among other things.
